Note Companion now brings a powerful upgrade to YouTube note-taking! You can instantly generate multiple types of structured notes from YouTube videos—including summaries, key concepts, Q&A, and timestamped outlines. The plugin fetches video transcripts, extracts metadata (like channel and publish date), and auto-tags your notes. All YouTube notes are now cleaner, with clickable timestamps and channel links, and sponsor segments are automatically excluded. These improvements make organizing and learning from YouTube content in your vault easier and more flexible than ever.
Technical Changes
- Added four new YouTube note templates: summary, key concepts, Q&A, and timestamped outline, each with detailed formatting instructions and metadata extraction.
- Refactored YouTube transcript fetching and formatting: now supports transcript sampling for long videos to fit formatting token budgets, and never stores raw transcripts in the vault.
- Auto-extracts and links YouTube channel names and URLs in note frontmatter and body.
- Clickable timestamps: [MM:SS] and [H:MM:SS] markers in notes are now automatically converted to YouTube deep links.
- Sponsor and ad segments are automatically excluded from all YouTube-generated notes.
- Inbox processing now classifies and formats YouTube notes more robustly, with improved error handling and user notifications.
- Added comprehensive tests for YouTube context extraction, formatting, and post-processing.
- Template restoration and management now includes all new YouTube templates.
