To test Campfyre you will need to have the following environment:

Campfyre Web Client + Server

Client

Start a webserver in the 'web' directory of the repo. If you have Python 3 installed this can be done with: python3 -m http.server

You'll also need to open web/js/campfyre.js and change line 7 from var ws = io('ws://'+window.location.hostname+':3973'); to var ws = io('ws://campfyre.org:3973'); if you aren't running your own server. If you do make a change to that line make sure to put it back to the original before submitting a pull request.

Server

You will need two things:

  • Node.js
  • Node Package Manager (npm)
  • A MySQL compatible database server (like MySQL or MariaDB)

Use the following table structure in your database:

table "posts":

table "comments":

You will also need at least three entries in your posts table to run the server.

To install and start the server navigate to the 'apiV3' folder in the repo and run npm install in the folder, once that is done run nodejs index.js databaseName databaseUsername databasePassword salt (replacing the arguments with what you set up earlier, and the salt with a random string of your choosing).

If you want to have email subscriptions running, put the password to your email server as the fourth argument and change the transporter object to contain the details for your server. If you change the transporter object make sure to put it back to normal before doing a pull request.

Android

Import the Campfyre folder inside the android directory into Android Studio, then gradle sync to download dependencies.
