Resonance v1.2.0

Version 1.2.0 brings major Spotify Connect playback improvements, cross-platform audio streaming, and crucial UI stability fixes.

A huge special thanks to @umbrellaplug (u/umbrella_dev on Reddit) for submitting a comprehensive Pull Request that overhauled the Android audio engine, fixed setup crashes, and brought full Spotify Connect playback to Android TV and NVIDIA Shield devices!

🚀 What's New & Fixed

🎧 Spotify Connect & Audio Playback

  • Cross-Platform Support: Full Spotify Connect playback and remote control enabled for Linux ARM64 (LibreELEC) and Android (ARM64 / ARMv7).
  • Remote Playback Control: Select your Kodi device directly inside the Spotify app on PC or Mobile and play/control tracks seamlessly. (Thanks @umbrellaplug)
  • Engine Upgrade: Switched Android streaming engine to Kodi's VideoPlayer to eliminate audio stuttering, silent playback, and early EOF issues. (Thanks @umbrellaplug)

🔑 Setup & QR Sign-in Fixes

  • QR Sign-In Flow: Resolved issues where QR sign-in got stuck on rejected navigation updates or infinite busy spinners. (Thanks @umbrellaplug)
  • Setup Initialization: Restored missing receiver-start functions and routed pairing requests properly through background services. (Thanks @umbrellaplug)

🛠️ Menu & UI Stability

  • Fire TV Crash Fix: Deferred release-note dialogs and prevented internal settings updates from refreshing menus while building, resolving native Kodi crashes on Fire TV / Android TV. (Thanks @umbrellaplug)

📦 Maintenance & Code Cleanup

  • Recompiled and bundled updated Spotty / librespot binaries for Android (ARMv7 / ARM64) and Linux ARM64.
  • Cleaned up unneeded bundled libraries, stale test suites, and streamlined the package build.

@Nigel1992 Nigel1992 released this 22 Oct 15:38

Spotify Connect fix for Android and Linux, plus a Kodi 21.2 crash fix.

Fixed

  • Fixed a crash on Kodi 21. The pairing screen asked the dialog for buttons with the wrong names, so Kodi refused the call with TypeError: 'noLabel' is an invalid keyword argument for this function and the setup never opened.
  • Fixed the Device Connect receiver on Android and Linux. Its output went into a pipe that nobody read. The receiver logs at trace level, so the pipe buffer filled up and the receiver stopped working instead of answering the Spotify app. The output now goes to device-connect.log in the Resonance runtime folder.
  • The receiver now asks for the full log, so a receiver that refuses to start finally says why. The tail of device-connect.log is copied into the Kodi log.
  • A receiver that cannot start is no longer restarted every few seconds. The automatic retries wait 15, 30, 45 and 60 seconds, and the pairing screen can still ask for an immediate attempt.
  • A leftover receiver from an earlier Kodi session is now cleaned up on Linux and Android as well. It kept the discovery port busy and made every new receiver exit immediately.
  • The pairing now falls back to the plain Spotify discovery mode when the dedicated authentication mode refuses to start. Both modes publish the same service and store the same credentials.
  • The Android receiver no longer asks for the ALSA sound card, which does not exist on Android.
  • The pairing screen starts the receiver itself, so it no longer depends on the background service noticing the request.

Install

Download the attached zip and install it in Kodi via Add-ons > Install from zip file.

Resonance 1.1.0

Your Spotify Library, Spotify write actions, a clearer menu and a release notes window.

Your Spotify Library

  • Liked Songs, Saved Albums, Followed Artists and Saved and Followed Playlists, read straight from your Spotify account.
  • The local Kodi Favorites are gone. The Spotify library covers the same need and stays in sync.

Spotify write actions

  • Like or unlike a track, and save or remove an album.
  • Add a track to one of your own playlists.
  • Create a playlist from Your Spotify Library, or start one with the selected track from a track context menu.
  • Remove a track from the playlist it is in. The context entry is named after that playlist, so there is no playlist to pick and the action only shows where the track really is in a playlist of your own.
  • Unfollow a playlist or an artist. Only the library entry is removed, Spotify keeps the playlist or artist itself.

Clearer menus

  • Every menu row has its own bundled icon, so the menus look the same in every skin.
  • The Account and status page is grouped into Account, Catalogue, Playback and Maintenance, with one icon per row.
  • The playback status page was reworked to match.
  • The playlist search category and the Open Spotify link row were removed. Spotify links still open with the open_link action, for example from a Kodi favourites entry.

Release notes window

  • After every update Resonance shows the version and everything that changed in a big window.
  • The same window is always available under Account and status with the row What's new.

Fixed

  • Add to Spotify playlist and Create playlist with this track work again. Kodi starts a context menu entry as a script and hands over the handle -1, and the add-on stopped there instead of running the action. The other context menu entries of a track, an album and a playlist were affected in the same way and work again.
  • The artist context menu works again: Artist: everything, Artist: top songs, Artist: albums, Artist: singles and Artist: appears on. Spotify rejects an artist album page with more than ten entries per page, so the page size is capped at ten now.
  • The rows of the playback status page only carry information. They cannot be clicked any more, so nothing happens by accident. Only the Quality row and the Connect row react to a click.

Upgrade notes

  • Install the zip over the old version and restart Kodi.
  • Open Account and status and choose Reauthorize Spotify once, so Spotify can approve the new library and playlist permissions.

Resonance 1.0.3

What's new

  • Local Kodi Favorites for songs, albums, artists, and playlists, organized into Albums, Artists, Playlists, and Songs sections.
  • Play a playlist from a selected track through the remaining tracks.
  • Playback status page with the current Kodi track, configured audio quality, and Spotify Connect pairing state.
  • Faster playlist browsing by caching playlist pages and reusing track metadata.
  • Followed and collaborative playlists are marked; when Spotify blocks a playlist's tracks, Resonance explains the restriction and offers follow-up actions.
  • Search navigation preserves the query while browsing into results.

Important limitations

  • Favorites are stored locally in Kodi as Spotify IDs and metadata. They do not sync to Spotify or other devices, download audio, or grant access to restricted content.
  • Spotify's Web API only permits reading playlist items for playlists the current user owns or collaborates on: Get Playlist Items.
  • Resonance does not write to the Spotify Library or edit playlists. Spotify's February 2026 API migration changed the library write endpoints; see the migration guide.

The ZIP contains the plugin.audio.resonance/ folder at its root, matching the structure of previous releases.

@Nigel1992 Nigel1992 released this 23 Sep 12:14

Artist browsing release for Resonance.

  • Adds artist context menus from track, album and artist rows.
  • Adds artist top songs, albums, singles, appears-on and combined artist overview pages.
  • Artist top songs falls back to a Spotify search when the top-tracks endpoint is unavailable.
  • Removes related artists after live testing confirmed Spotify returns HTTP 403 for this app.
  • Keeps the existing 1.0.1 fixes for browser-login persistence and unreadable playlist hiding.
  • Changing the hide-playlists toggle clears catalogue data and addon runtime caches, then refreshes the current menu without restarting Kodi.
  • Adds regression coverage for artist browsing and addon cache clearing.

@Nigel1992 Nigel1992 released this 23 Sep 11:50

Hotfix release for Spotify browser-login persistence and playlist visibility.

  • Preserves the stored Spotify refresh token when Spotify refresh responses omit a replacement token.
  • Prevents catalogue sign-in from requiring the zip1/browser login again after access-token expiry and addon restarts.
  • Adds Settings > Catalogue > Hide playlists Resonance cannot read.
  • Clears the catalogue cache when that playlist hiding toggle changes, then refreshes the visible Resonance menu.
  • Shortens the unreadable playlist dialog and separates the hide-playlists hint into its own readable paragraph.
  • Adds regression coverage for token refresh and unreadable playlist filtering.
