Stride v1.0.2 β Retro Mode
πΉοΈ Retro Mode
Stride now has a full 8-bit skin. Not a recolour β an actual pixel redesign:
- Pixel typeface throughout (Press Start 2P)
- Stair-stepped corners on every panel, chip and button β real pixel corners, not small radii
- Chunky outlines and hard offset shadows, the way pixel-art UIs fake depth
- Block progress ring with a continuous radar sweep
- Blinking terminal caret, CRT scanlines, blocky switches
- Retro map β the walk map is duotoned into the arcade palette with a pixel frame
Toggle it in Settings β Appearance β Retro mode. The original Material design is
completely untouched behind the switch, and nothing about how the app works changes.
π¨ Arcade palette
A new colour palette inspired by 8-bit tracker consoles: a bright sky-cyan field, deep
indigo panels, and coral / mint / amber accents. Light and dark variants. Free for
everyone β Retro mode pairs with it automatically.
β¨ Also new
- Free home-screen widget β the steps + goal widget is no longer premium
- Background-reliability hint β if your phone is battery-restricting Stride while
background counting is on, the app offers a one-tap fix. This is the single most
common cause of "my steps stopped counting" - Gentle rating prompt β at most once a fortnight, only after a goal, never again
once you've rated - Crash reporting so problems get fixed faster
π Fixed
- The goal coach no longer nags. Dismissing it now sticks for the rest of the day
instead of reappearing every time you returned to the dashboard - Clean midnight rollover β today's count resets correctly even if the app was never
opened around midnight - Onboarding permissions are requested in sequence, so prompts are no longer
silently skipped - Accessibility β the progress ring now reads as one clear label in TalkBack
Both share the same package and signing key, so a Gumroad install updates cleanly to the
Play build later.
