Stride v1.0.6 — Keyholder
Please update. This fixes two counting bugs, one of which makes today's
number visibly wrong, and both were reported by people who took the trouble to
show us rather than uninstall. Thank you.
Today's count no longer jumps backwards
One user recorded a video of the step count climbing and then dropping again,
every few seconds, all day. That was not their phone. It was ours.
Two parts of Stride write today's total, and they did not agree on the rules.
The step sensor wrote its own figure and only ever pushed the number up. The
Health Connect sync — which runs every few seconds while the app is open — then
recalculated the day and wrote a figure that was allowed to be lower. Each
undid the other, forever.
It hit you whenever Health Connect's total for today sat below what the phone
had already counted, which is why it was constant for some people and never
happened to others. Accurate step filtering could cause it a second way, by
subtracting steps taken in a vehicle from a figure those steps had never been
added to.
Both writers now work from a single shared total. Within a day, the number on
screen can only go up.
Choosing Step source → This phone still shows exactly what the pedometer
saw, corrections downwards included. Asking for that figure is asking for that
figure.
The notification and Live Update pill no longer freeze after midnight
Reported as "steps work in the app but not in the notification or pill".
The background service decided which day to display once, when it started, and
never re-checked. The moment the clock passed midnight it was still showing
yesterday's row — which by then never changes again. The app itself works the
day out every time you open it, which is exactly why the two disagreed.
Both now follow the clock across the rollover. So does the walk-tracking
notification, and so does the date printed above your step count — which had the
same fault for the same reason, and turned up while testing this fix: the count
would reset to zero for the new day while the line above it still said
yesterday.
No steps were ever lost to this one — the stored count was right, only the
notification and pill were reading the wrong day.
Two smaller fixes from the same round of reports
A five-figure count no longer overruns the ring. The big number shrinks to
fit, but it worked out how far to shrink from how many characters it had — and
six characters were on the safe list. They aren't: the first 10,000-step day
rendered at full size and spilled out over the ring on both sides. It now
measures against the space actually there, so it fits at any length, in any
theme.
Pull-to-refresh can now change which source wins. Working out whether your
watch or your phone should own today means reading every step record for the
day, so the answer is held for ten minutes rather than redone every fifteen
seconds. That also applied when you pulled to refresh — so if your band had
just synced, you could pull again and again and keep seeing the phone's number
until the cache expired by itself. Asking by hand now buys a real look.
This does not make Health Connect itself any faster. Stride can only show what
Health Connect has been given, and some trackers hand their steps over in
batches rather than as you walk. Settings → Step source shows what Health
Connect holds for today, live, beside the phone's own count — if the two
disagree with your tracker's own app, that gap is upstream of Stride.
Licensing moved to a licence server
Until now Stride verified licence keys inside the app. The device limit was a
constant in the APK, the verdict was computed on the device, and a refund never
really revoked anything. All three now live on a server, which hands the app a
signed entitlement it re-checks locally.
Keys bought before this release keep working. They are still verified
against the store that issued them. Nothing needs re-entering, no key has been
reissued, and none will be.
- A licence covers five devices, and a device can be released. Settings →
Premium → Remove licence now frees the seat rather than only forgetting it
on this phone, so changing handset no longer costs a permanent slot. - Premium survives being offline. The entitlement is good for 30 days
between successful checks. A dead connection — or a bad afternoon at the
licence provider — cannot take away something you paid for. Only a definite
"no" does. - The error messages are honest. A key that has run out of devices, a device
released from somewhere else, and a key that genuinely isn't a key used to
produce one identical message. They are now three, each saying what to do
next.
New purchases go through Polar, at a one-time $3. That is a change of
payment processor, not of pricing model — there is still no subscription, and
nothing that was free has become paid. Plainly: Gumroad's fees were taking
between 43% and 53% of a $2 sale. At $3 through Polar the fee is roughly a sixth
of that.

Accurate step filtering is free and always has been — Settings → Tracking.
This APK is built from the closed tree and includes the paid components, so it
won't match the GPLv3 source byte for byte.
