@github-actions github-actions released this 02 Oct 21:22

First release of cochange: it reads your git history, learns which files change together, and lists the companions missing from your current change.

Try it

npm install -g github:Nithinfgs/cochange
cochange              # check uncommitted changes
cochange backtest # measure how trustworthy the signal is for this repo

Included

  • check for working-tree, --staged, and --base <ref> (PR) scopes
  • of <file>, backtest [--sweep], report (self-contained HTML coupling map)
  • hook claude | pre-commit | github snippets, including a Claude Code Stop hook mode
  • Output as text, JSON, Markdown (PR comments) or GitHub annotations
  • Rename following, bulk-commit and lockfile filtering, lift filter, recency weighting
  • Zero runtime dependencies; CI on Linux, macOS and Windows, Node 20 and 22

What to expect

Measured on flask, requests, django and rails at the default 80% confidence: 5-10% of deliberately hidden files were flagged, about 30% of flags were correct, and 4-10% of complete commits still drew a warning. It is a tripwire for strong conventions, not an oracle. Method, tables and caveats: docs/VALIDATION.md.

Known limitations

  • Not yet on the npm registry; install from GitHub or the attached tarball.
  • Needs real history: files with fewer than four past commits produce no suggestions.
  • History is capped at the newest 3000 commits by default.

Feedback wanted: run cochange backtest --sweep on your repo and open a "Signal quality report" issue with the numbers.
