Nexgn Document Signing - PDF Preparation & Digital Signature Workflows

Overview

An application foundation becomes useful when people can accomplish the work they came to do.

Following the initial application and authentication milestone, Nexgn's next step was to build its core document workflow: allowing users to upload PDF documents, prepare them for signing, assign interactive fields, and guide signers through the signing process.

Nexgn Document Signing (v0.2.0) introduces the primary document preparation and digital signature workflows that form the foundation of the product.

The focus of this release is to connect document management, PDF preparation, signer configuration, and signing completion into a coherent user experience.

What's Included

1. Document Management

The document module introduces the core operations needed to organize and manage documents within the application.

  • Document upload
  • Document listing
  • Document search
  • Document filtering
  • Document status presentation
  • Document ownership presentation
  • Document actions
  • Document viewing
  • Document archive workflows
  • Document cancellation workflows
  • Document restore workflows
  • Recycle Bin experience

These capabilities establish the document-management foundation for subsequent signing and workspace improvements.

2. PDF Document Preparation

The document preparation experience introduces PDF rendering and interactive field configuration.

  • PDF document rendering
  • Document page navigation
  • Page thumbnails
  • Document field placement
  • Signature fields
  • Text fields
  • Number fields
  • Name fields
  • Email fields
  • Date fields
  • Field positioning

This gives users a structured way to prepare a PDF and configure the information required during signing.

3. Sign Yourself Workflow

The Sign Yourself workflow establishes a dedicated experience for users who need to complete a document themselves.

  • Dedicated sign-yourself workflow
  • Document preparation and viewing
  • Signature input experience
  • Signing consent experience
  • Signing confirmation states
  • Success feedback

4. Signature Request Workflow

The signature-request experience introduces workflows for preparing documents that need to be completed by other signers.

  • Signature request workflow
  • Signer-specific signing experience
  • Signing request viewing
  • Signing request status
  • Signing request completion
  • Signature field interaction
  • Signing confirmation

These capabilities establish the initial workflow for moving a document from preparation into a signer-facing experience.

5. Document Viewer

The document viewer provides a read-oriented experience for reviewing documents and their associated information.

  • Document viewer
  • PDF preview
  • Page thumbnails
  • Document information
  • Signer information
  • Signing status presentation
  • Read-only document viewing

6. Signing States & User Feedback

Document workflows need clear feedback when an action succeeds, fails, or can no longer be completed.

This release introduces interface states for:

  • Document loading
  • Document skeletons
  • Empty document states
  • Signing overlays
  • Already-signed states
  • Revoked-document states
  • Signing consent
  • Success feedback
  • Error feedback

7. Document Navigation

The release establishes dedicated product areas for the primary document workflow:

  • Documents
  • Sign Yourself
  • Sign Requests
  • Document Viewer
  • Document Preparation

8. User Experience Improvements

The document experience includes improvements to:

  • Responsive document interfaces
  • Document navigation
  • Signing experience
  • Status presentation
  • User feedback
  • Mobile document experience
  • Loading and error states

Why We Built This

Document preparation and signing are connected activities. A document must be available, the relevant fields must be configured, the appropriate signer must interact with it, and the application must communicate the resulting state.

The product challenge was to establish this workflow within Nexgn rather than treating document viewing, preparation, and signing as unrelated experiences.

This release represents the transition from the initial application foundation to the core purpose of the product: enabling digital document signing workflows.

Product Thinking Behind This Release

Make the primary workflow work before expanding its surroundings.

The focus was on establishing the essential document lifecycle and signing interactions. Search, filtering, page navigation, field placement, signer assignment, and clear signing states provide the foundation for future improvements to repeatability, collaboration, and automation.

The result is a baseline on which more advanced document preparation and workspace functionality can be developed.

What's Next

The next milestone expands Nexgn beyond individual document operations.

The focus shifts toward reusable templates, saved contacts, team management, and role-based permissions—capabilities that help make recurring document workflows easier to organize and manage.
