GlouOS 0.8
Added
GlouOS Game Center, a new home for everything gaming. A notification
bell collects every action that may be limiting your potential performance,
with a one-click Fix where GlouOS can fix it for you: monitor running below
its maximum refresh rate, wrong GPU driver, gaming scheduler not running,
Power Saver profile, running on battery, fallback kernel, low disk space and
more. It also shows full system information, what's using your CPU and
memory right now, and quick access to the gaming tools. Everything is
analysed locally and only when you open it: no background service, no
trackers, nothing ever leaves your PC.
Audio setup in the Welcome Center. First boot now asks you to pick your
default output and input devices from two dropdowns, or skip with
"I will do this later".
X3D cache-aware gaming on dual-CCD AMD X3D processors (7900X3D,
7950X3D, 9950X3D): when a game starts, GlouOS steers it onto the CPU cores
with the big 3D V-Cache, and hands the high-clock cores back when it exits.
Automatic, per game, and inert on other CPUs.
Full GPU controls for AMD cards. CoreCtrl fan curves, clock and power
controls are unlocked out of the box on machines with an AMD GPU
(previously every slider was greyed out, as on most distros).
glouos -v prints your installed GlouOS version, and the version is
now shown in GlouOS Updates too.
Voice chat readiness: 32-bit microphone support for older games and
launchers, plus a proper volume control panel (pavucontrol) for
per-app input troubleshooting.
Changed
GlouOS Updates now updates absolutely everything. GlouOS releases live
on GitHub rather than in the package repositories, and the update button
previously only installed repository packages, so a new GlouOS version was
never delivered by the app itself. Checking now also looks at GitHub and
announces "GlouOS 0.9 is available", and Download & install delivers the
new release together with the package updates. (Coming from 0.7: run sudo glouos update once to receive this fix; the
app updates everything by itself from then on.)
Fixed
Clicking Download & install in GlouOS Updates reported success while
leaving GlouOS itself on the old version (see above).
The update status headline could claim "up to date" while a newer GlouOS
release existed on GitHub.
