LAS Recomp for Android 1.1.2

@Nycolazs Nycolazs released this 21 Oct 19:32

LAS Recomp for Android 1.1.2 - two regressions from 1.1.0 fixed. Install over 1.1.x (saves stay; no game-code rebuild).

  • Frame generation works again (#7). Since 1.1.0 the in-between frames were never made: the screen showed the game's 30 fps. Measured on a Galaxy S20 FE: 30 real + up to 30 generated frames a second again (60 on screen in the Field).
  • Houses and other interiors look right with the unlocked aspect ratio (#8): they came out zoomed in and off-centre, with dark bands at the top and sides.

Both came from a Beta 5 change that turns off the game's own dynamic resolution; on Android it stays on, as in 1.0.0.

Performance against 1.0.0 (same save, same scripted route through five Field areas and two dungeons, phone cooled to the same temperature, warm shader caches): 30 fps held in both, 31 frames over 50 ms vs 33-34, p99 frame time 41.7 ms vs 46-50 ms, 80% of a core vs 84-85%.

Em português: a geração de quadros (60 fps) voltou a funcionar e as casas/interiores com proporção "Unlocked" não ficam mais ampliados e deslocados.

@Nycolazs Nycolazs released this 21 Oct 18:46

LAS Recomp for Android 1.1.1 - fixes for the reports on 1.1.0. Install over 1.1.0 (saves stay; the game code doesn't need rebuilding).

  • Phones whose own GPU driver can't run the game (e.g. Mali-G57 with Vulkan 1.1): the "Graphics driver error" now really offers Install GPU driver / Use the system driver - in 1.1.0 it still showed only an OK button. Pick a driver .zip (e.g. a Mesa PanVK build for Mali) and the app restarts with it. (#4)
  • Fixed touch stick: Settings > Controls > Stick > Fixed keeps the stick where it is (move it with Edit touch layout); Follows the thumb is the old behaviour. (#5)

Performance checked against 1.0.0 on a Galaxy S20 FE (same save, same scripted route through five Field areas and two dungeons, phone cooled to the same temperature, second run of each with warm shader caches): both hold 30 fps (60 shown with frame generation); 1.1.1 has fewer long frames (27 frames over 50 ms vs 33-34, p99 frame time 37.6 ms vs 46-50 ms) and slightly less CPU (82% vs 84-85% of a core), with ~1 ms more GPU per frame (the game's 3D now always at its full internal resolution - sharper).

Em português: o erro de driver gráfico agora oferece de verdade "Instalar driver de GPU" / "Usar o driver do sistema" (na 1.1.0 só tinha OK); nova opção de analógico fixo (Configurações > Controles > Analógico).

LAS Recomp for Android 1.1.0

@Nycolazs Nycolazs released this 21 Oct 16:40

LAS Recomp for Android 1.1.0 - fixes from your reports, and everything new in LAS Recomp's Beta 5.

Updating from 1.0.0: install over it (your saves stay). The game code is rebuilt once on the phone (~11 min on a
Snapdragon 865) - the start screen does it by itself.

Setup

  • Choose your .xci / .nsp, then your prod.keys - no more folder hunting. A folder with exefs / romfs still works.
  • Compressed packages (.nsz, .xcz, also when renamed to .nsp) and .zip / .rar / .7z are now named as such instead of "those files can't be used".
  • Game files on a memory card: Settings > Prelaunch > Storage.

Crashes and GPUs

  • Samsung Xclipse and Mali: the 3 GB guest heap isn't handed to the GPU driver anymore (the Galaxy S26 crashed at its first frame with "Graphics driver error").
  • Custom GPU drivers on every GPU (Mesa PanVK on Mali, Turnip on Adreno...): Settings > Video > GPU driver. If your phone's own driver can't start the game, the error now offers to install a driver (or go back to the system's) and restarts the app.
  • A crash in the game's memory allocator seen on a Poco X3 Pro: the memory write tracking now retries, logs, and turns itself off for the next runs if it ever fails.
  • Upstream Beta 5 fixes: a new render thread, steady 30 fps pacing, no running out of open files, map overlays reading freed pages, and more.

Play

  • Frame rate: Auto / 60 fps (native) / 30 fps (Settings > Video). Native 60 is for phones fast enough for the game's own 60 fps mode; Auto keeps 30 + frame generation where it can't.
  • Side bars: around movies, menus and the file select the screen shows the picture's own edges, blurred, instead of black bars that flickered (Settings > Video > Side bars to go back to black).
  • Naming Link: big keys on the screen with OK / Cancel (the phone keyboard had no way to confirm). Tap the name box to open it.
  • Controllers: face buttons go by their letters by default (A = the bottom button - Xbox pads, AYN / Retroid handhelds); Settings > Controls > Face buttons switches back to the Switch layout. The in-game button icons follow.
  • Touch controls: they now show on phones where they never appeared; Settings > Controls > Buttons: "All" keeps every button on screen.
  • Saves: import from / export to Switch emulators (yuzu, Eden, Citron, Sudachi, Ryujinx) in Settings > Prelaunch > Saves - the saves already in the app are backed up first.
  • Switch fonts import works on Android (.bfttf / .ttf); any other .ttf becomes the game's text font.
  • Readable text in the overlays and name entry; "Tap to start" no longer covers the copyright line.

From LAS Recomp Beta 5

Room shuffle Coupled / Decoupled, paced item placement, Shellsanity and entrance-rando fixes, a cosmetics overhaul (hair, body, shield, leaves, grass, sand colours, seasons, screen filters), a speedrun timer, race mode, a tracker redesign and more - see LAS Recomp.

Tested on a Galaxy S20 FE (Snapdragon 865). The Xclipse / Mali fixes come from your logs and couldn't be tested on those phones yet - reports are very welcome (include lasrecomp.log from Android/data/com.lasrecomp.android/files/).

LAS Recomp for Android 1.0.0

Choose a tag to compare

@Nycolazs Nycolazs released this 20 Oct 20:06

The first release of LAS Recomp for Android: The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (Switch, 2019), statically
recompiled to native ARM64 - not emulation - and set up entirely on your phone from your own copy of the game.

No game files are included. You need your own Link's Awakening v1.0.0: an .xci / .nsp dumped from your
own cartridge or console plus the prod.keys from your own Switch, or the extracted exefs / romfs folders.

Install

  1. Download LASRecomp-Android-1.0.0.apk below and install it.
  2. Put your .xci / .nsp and prod.keys in one folder on the phone (e.g. Download/LAS).
  3. Open the app -> Game files folder -> pick that folder -> Set up game files. The game is extracted (~30 s)
    and its code is built on the phone (~11 min on a Snapdragon 865); then the game starts.

Android 11+, arm64, about 12 GB free for the setup. Built for Adreno (Snapdragon) GPUs, with the Mesa Turnip driver
included.

Highlights

  • 60 fps on a Galaxy S20 FE at 1x internal resolution (the game's 30 fps plus a generated in-between frame).
  • Set up from .xci / .nsp + prod.keys on the phone - with or without the update inside (the base v1.0.0 is
    used) - or from extracted folders.
  • On-phone game build in ~11 minutes (26.6 before: functions the game never runs are built without optimization;
    the game plays the same).
  • Touch controls that follow the game: only the buttons in use, with the game's own item icons; tap to start, tap
    a file to load it, tap an item to select it; a layout editor (move, resize, hide). They hide while a controller is
    in use; Select + Start or Android's back button opens the settings.
  • Brazilian Portuguese: app menus, and the game via the fan translation by Projeto Zelda Brasil - Heroes of Time
    (optional, Settings > Language; shipped as a patch applied to your own files).
  • Everything from LAS Recomp up to its current beta: randomizer, tracker,
    cheats, warp menu, save editor and more.

Tested on one phone (Galaxy S20 FE, Snapdragon 865, Android 16). Controllers are supported through SDL3 but haven't
been tested on a phone yet. Reports from other devices are very welcome - please include lasrecomp.log from
Android/data/com.lasrecomp.android/files/.
