v1.12: no black strip in the item menu, Select opens the map, sturdier save states, an autosave you can see
⚠️ Updating from v1.11 / v1.11.1
v1.11's signing key was lost, so v1.12 is signed with a new, permanent key. Android won't install it over v1.11.x. Do this once:
- In v1.11.x, check that ≡ → Saves → Saves outside the app is on. That is the
WindWakerHD Plusfolder at the top of your phone's storage. If it isn't on, use Export saves to a folder instead. - Uninstall v1.11.x and install v1.12.
- Allow Saves outside the app when the app asks. Your save, save states and settings come back by themselves (or use Saves → Import saves).
- Extract the game again (Extract from your disc image or .wua…). The game files are deleted with the old app. The game code is then prepared for your phone once more (5–15 min).
From v1.12 on, updates install directly over each other.
What's new
🗺️ The item menu opens cleanly
With a widescreen picture, for about a second after opening the menu, a black strip showed at the left and the first page had a left arrow it shouldn't have. Both are gone from the first frame.
Why it happened: the menu is also drawn to the hidden GamePad picture until it has opened on the TV. A layout drawn to both screens was laid out for the GamePad's 16:9 screen, so its background didn't cover the wider picture.
🧭 Select opens the map
- A short press of the controller's Select opens the menu straight on the MAP tab.
- With the menu already open, it switches to the MAP tab.
- Holding Select (or Select + Start) still opens the app's settings.
- Turn it off in Controls → Select opens the map.
💾 Save states that don't get corrupted
- Every part of the game's memory is saved. Android moves memory the game hasn't touched for a while into compressed swap (zram). States only saved the parts still in RAM, so the swapped parts were missing and came back as zeros when loaded. That could break the game some time after a load. Saving is also faster (about 1 s), since the memory is scanned on all cores.
- A damaged or cut-off state file is recognised ("file is corrupt") instead of crashing the game. A load that could only unpack part of a state says so.
- After a load:
- textures that had been render targets are uploaded again, and the GamePad audio mix comes back;
- moon jump, climbing and quick doors start from a clean state;
- the next autosave waits a full interval, instead of writing over the slot you just loaded.
- Leftover files are cleaned up. Files left by a save cut short (the app closed while writing, up to ~500 MB) are deleted at start.
⏱️ An autosave you can see
- The Auto slot now has its picture, like the other slots. Before, it looked like an empty slot.
- A short "Autosaved" notice shows each time it is written.
- An autosave stops the game for only about 0.2 s.
Requirements: Android 11+, arm64, Vulkan 1.1, and your own copy of the game (.wua, or .wud/.wux with keys). The APK contains no game code or files: the game is prepared on your phone on the first start.
