ReleaseNotesGen is a native macOS app that connects to the GitHub API and generates formatted Markdown release notes by comparing commits between two tags — automatically categorized by conventional commit prefixes.

Features

  • Connect via GitHub Personal Access Token, stored securely in the macOS Keychain
  • Load tags from any public or private repository
  • Compare commits between two tags and auto-categorize into Features, Bug Fixes, Refactors, Chores, and Documentation
  • Toggle between Raw Markdown and a rendered Preview
  • Copy to clipboard or export as .md file
  • Token persists between sessions — change repositories without re-authenticating

Requirements

  • macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later
  • A GitHub Personal Access Token with public_repo scope

Notes

This is the initial release. No external dependencies — built entirely with SwiftUI, AppKit, and URLSession.
