Troubleshooting

The game will not open

  • Windows: if SmartScreen shows Windows protected your PC, click More info > Run anyway. Make sure you extracted the zip first: running PypeLine.exe from inside the zip does not work.
  • macOS: see the steps for your macOS version in Installing#macos. "PypeLine is damaged and can't be opened" means the download is still quarantined; run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/PypeLine.app in Terminal.
  • Linux: run ./pypeline from a terminal to see the error. "No suitable graphics adapter" or a Vulkan error means the Vulkan driver is missing (see Installing#linux). "Permission denied" means the file lost its run permission: chmod +x pypeline.
  • Any system: update your graphics driver. The game needs Vulkan, Metal or DirectX 12.

The window opens and closes straight away

Start it from a terminal (Linux and macOS: ./pypeline or /Applications/PypeLine.app/Contents/MacOS/PypeLine; Windows: open a Command Prompt in the folder and type PypeLine.exe) and open an issue with what it prints.

No sound

Press M: it switches sound on and off. Check the volume in Settings. On Linux, make sure ALSA, PulseAudio or PipeWire is running.

My script does nothing

  • Press ▶ Run after changing it. Saving alone does not rebuild the factory.
  • Read the console: an error shows the line and a hint, and a script with an error changes nothing.
  • place and connect only work in main.py (or a file it imports), not inside tick().
  • Machines that need power do nothing until power.connect(...) links them to a steam generator.

Where are my saves?

Your scripts, factory, window positions and settings are kept outside the game folder, so a new download keeps them:

macOS ~/Library/Application Support/PypeLine
Linux ~/.local/share/PypeLine

Inside are scripts (your .py files), saves (the factory and your progress), settings.ron and terminals.ron (where your code windows are). To start completely fresh, close the game and delete that folder.

Open an issue and say which system you are on and what happened.
