SubtitleGo v0.1.0 (Pre-Release)

Hey everyone!

I built SubtitleGo as a personal hobby project because I was frustrated that I couldn't find a simple, straightforward, and truly local desktop tool for subtitle generation. Most tools either required spinning up complex Docker containers, signing up for paid cloud API services, or running complicated terminal scripts.

I wanted something simple: drop in videos, let an accurate speech recognition model run locally on my machine, get naturally-paced .srt / .vtt subtitles, and be able to preview and tweak them right away. So, I built SubtitleGo with PySide6 and Qwen3-ASR (1.7B).

Pre-Release Status & Notes from the Dev

  • Subtitle Generation (Works Great & Ready to Use!):
    The core pipeline is completely working and tested. Audio extraction, silence/pause detection, local AI transcription, smart clause splitting/pacing, and saving .srt and .vtt files all work reliably.
  • Video Player & Editor (Under Active Development / Work in Progress):
    The built-in video preview player and interactive cue table are still experimental and rough around the edges. You might hit small UI bugs, seeking quirks, or sync hiccups while editing. I'm actively working on smoothing these out for the next updates!

What It Can Do

  • 100% Local Inference: Runs Qwen3-ASR locally on your GPU/CPU — no external servers, API keys, or subscriptions.
  • Hardware Acceleration: Automatic GPU acceleration on NVIDIA RTX cards (CUDA) and Apple Silicon Macs (Metal/MPS), with seamless CPU fallback.
  • Smart Pacing: Splits long sentences naturally and pauses at real speech breaks so subtitles are readable (target 2.0s – 4.5s per cue).
  • 52 Languages: Automatic language detection and multi-language support.
  • Batch Queue: Drag and drop multiple files/folders to process them in batch with automatic saving.
  • Preview & Edit (Beta): Built-in preview player with live subtitle overlay and side-by-side raw SRT/WebVTT editors.

You don't need Python or terminal knowledge to run the pre-built binaries:

Getting Started

  1. Download and unzip the archive for your OS.
  2. Run the executable.
  3. On first launch, the setup wizard will help set up your local AI environment and download the Qwen3-ASR model weights with one click.

System Requirements

  • Windows: Windows 10 / 11 (64-bit)
  • Linux: Ubuntu 20.04+, Debian 11+, Fedora 38+, Arch
  • macOS: macOS 12+ (Apple Silicon recommended)
  • GPU (Recommended): NVIDIA GPU or Apple Silicon Mac (CPU mode works too)
