Suko v0.1.0

Suko is a fast, explainable Sudoku solver with both a human-style logical solver and a brute-force backtracker. It ships with a desktop GUI and an interactive TUI, a unique-solution puzzle generator (seeded), step-by-step session exports, conflict highlighting, and highscores.

✨ Highlights

  • Two Solvers

    • Logical (human-style): Employs techniques like naked singles, hidden singles, and iterative reductions (pointing/claiming, naked pairs) with clear, step-by-step explanations for each move.
    • Backtracking: Features an optimized solver using MRV + forward checking and a simple 9→1 brute-force variant that can solve any valid puzzle.

  • Two Frontends

    • GUI (egui/eframe): A user-friendly graphical interface with features like Open/Save, Candidates toggle, Clear/Reset, and step-by-step solving. It includes a right-hand panel to explain "What just happened?", a left panel for highscores, and conflict highlighting.
    • TUI (ratatui/crossterm): A fast and responsive terminal interface. Navigate with arrow keys or hjkl, input digits, and use keyboard shortcuts for logical steps (l), auto-solving (L), and full brute-force solving (S). Includes sidebars for steps and highscores.

  • Puzzle Generator: Builds valid Sudoku grids and carves out clues while ensuring a single unique solution. Supports seeding for reproducible puzzles.

  • Session Exports: Generate detailed Markdown logs of your solving session, showing the board state at every step for maximum explainability and debugging.

  • Highscores: Track your performance with a timer and progress monitor. Saved runs (from a seed or a finished grid) can be viewed in both the GUI and TUI.

  • Clean & Fast: Binaries are optimized with LTO and stripped, resulting in a small and speedy application.

To run:

  1. Unzip the downloaded file.
  2. Run the executable:
    • GUI: suko-gui.exe
    • TUI: suko-tui.exe
