@Onion-Alien Onion-Alien released this 03 Oct 07:56

See your pictures big, and roomier trigger cards.

  • Click a trigger's picture to see it big. Small cut-outs are blown up in sharp, whole pixels, so you can see exactly what you took, over a checkerboard where they're see-through, with their size and what they were cut from. A trigger's other pictures are along the bottom: ← and → go through them. F11 or a double-click fills the screen. Swap a picture for a file, or remove it (with Undo), from there.
  • Roomier cards. Bigger thumbnails, more space around and between the settings, a thin line between Watch for, Then and Fine-tune, and Duplicate / Delete on Fine-tune's line. Cards sit further apart, and the bottom bar has more padding.

@Onion-Alien Onion-Alien released this 03 Oct 03:51

A cleaner trigger card, and sounds that stop when they should.

  • Each trigger is one tidy line until you open it: its picture, its name, what it does (or what's wrong), the live match, an on / off switch. Open it and the settings come in three groups: Watch for (when, where, which part, the pictures), Then (the sounds, ring and what stops it, Test) and Fine-tune, folded away behind a line that sums it up. No more rows running off the edge of the card.
  • Nothing a trigger plays outlives what started it. A sound you click on a card to hear it stops when you take it off the card. A test stops when you delete the trigger. A ring stops when you untick Ring, switch the trigger off or remove its sound. Clicking a sound again starts it over instead of on top.
  • In Onion Board (from the next Onion Board version), a sound you click on a card plays in your headphones only, not into the call.

Alarms that stop when you're back, and better matching for game models.

  • Ringing stops by itself when you're back. Tick Ring and pick what stops it:

    • until the game moves (the default): anything moves where it looks, once the screen has settled, so a "YOU DIED" fade-in doesn't count;
    • until I switch to the game: alt-tab back to it. Queue pop while you're in another window? It rings until you're in the game;
    • until it's gone, until I touch mouse or keys, or until I click Stop.

    Stop, the tray icon and the notification still stop any ring.

  • Characters and creatures cut out of a game (a transparent PNG) are found properly. Tested with 3D-rendered models in 60 scenes they weren't cut from: other backgrounds, darker, at night, nearer and further away, partly hidden. Two bugs fixed on the way:

    • a slim figure could go off in an empty scene (only a few dozen pixels of it were compared at some sizes);
    • the colour check counted the scenery showing through a cut-out, so the right place could be thrown out.

    Tip: one trigger can hold a picture of each pose (up to 100).

@Onion-Alien Onion-Alien released this 01 Oct 20:59

Small fixes from a full code audit.

  • Fullscreen games are seen again after a long screen lock. A lock or Windows prompt up for more than 20 seconds left capture on a fallback that only sees black in fullscreen games; it now switches back to the normal capture by itself.
  • A window that can't be captured says so. Some windows never give a picture; the trigger's card now tells you to pick its screen instead, rather than showing "Watching" while nothing can set it off.
  • An alarm whose sound file is missing or broken still rings, with the default alert, instead of firing silently.
  • A damaged settings file is kept as config.json.bad before the defaults are saved, so it can still be recovered by hand.

@Onion-Alien Onion-Alien released this 01 Oct 04:57

Reliability fixes from a full code audit.

  • Watching never gives up on its own any more. If the screen went away for more than 20 seconds (monitor asleep, dock or cable unplugged, remote desktop dropped), or one check hit an odd frame, watching stopped and stayed stopped. It now keeps trying and picks up again as soon as the screen is back.
  • Alarms come back after the sound device goes away. Unplugging headphones (or a driver reset) left every later alarm ringing into nothing until a restart; the next alarm now opens the output again.
  • A damaged trigger pack says so instead of failing silently.

Small polish to the Triggers page.

  • After deleting a trigger, the Undo notice floats over the list instead of pushing the triggers down.
  • Recently deleted is now a compact bin icon beside More.

Nothing is lost to a misclick any more.

  • Deleting a trigger asks first.
  • Recently deleted: a deleted trigger is kept for 30 days, pictures and all. The Recently deleted (n) button beside More brings it back to where it was. An Undo bar also shows for a few seconds after a delete.
  • Removing one picture from a trigger can be undone.
  • What went off asks before clearing its list.
  • In Onion Board, Remove Onion Watch… is in the add-on's More menu.

Onion Watch 0.4.0

@Onion-Alien Onion-Alien released this 30 Sep 09:17

Onion Watch 0.4.0: more kinds of trigger, and several windows per trigger. Download OnionWatchSetup.exe below, run it, done: no Python, no admin rights, no account.

  • Several windows and screens per trigger, or every copy of a game (also copies started later). The alert, the card and the history say which one went off.
  • An area per trigger: watch just a part of the window. It follows the window when it's resized.
  • More kinds of trigger: something shows up, something goes away, an area changes, an area stops changing (stuck / idle), a bar runs low (health, mana).
  • Must last: how long it has to be there before it counts. Stay quiet in the window you're playing.
  • What went off: the latest alerts with a picture of each moment (kept in memory only).
  • Duplicate a trigger, and save / load triggers as a .zip to share them or move PCs.
  • It only looks. It never clicks, types, reads game memory or injects anything.

Windows or your browser may warn you about the download because the installer isn't code-signed: click More info → Run anyway.

Files

  • OnionWatchSetup.exe: the app. This is the one you want.
  • OnionWatch-module.zip: the same triggers as an add-on for Onion Board's Triggers tab. Onion Board downloads it itself when you click Get Onion Watch; you don't need to.

@Onion-Alien Onion-Alien released this 30 Sep 05:12

Onion Watch is now its own Windows app. Download OnionWatchSetup.exe below, run it, done: no Python, no admin rights, no account.

Plays a sound when something shows up in a game, a rare spawn, a queue popping, a whisper, YOU DIED, even while you're alt-tabbed into another window.

  • Watches a game's own window, even while other windows cover it (not while it's minimized).
  • Tells two copies of a game apart, for playing two accounts at once.
  • Cut from window… takes the picture to watch for straight out of the game.
  • Ring until stopped: an alarm that keeps going until you click Stop.

Virus scan: VirusTotal: 68 of 68 engines clean.

New in 0.3.1: the app is built with its own copy of PyInstaller's launcher and carries its version details, after Microsoft's scanner wrongly flagged 0.3.0's installer. Nothing else changed.

Onion Watch 0.2.1

Choose a tag to compare

@Onion-Alien Onion-Alien released this 30 Sep 03:50

The first public release: Onion Watch as Onion Board's Triggers tab.

Plays a sound when something shows up in a game, a rare spawn, a queue popping, YOU DIED, even while you're alt-tabbed into another window.

  • It only looks. It never clicks, types, reads game memory or injects anything.

Getting it: in Onion Board, open the Triggers tab and click Get Onion Watch. Onion Board downloads OnionWatch-module.zip below, checks it against the SHA-256 GitHub lists for it, and loads it into the tab. Triggers you made in Onion Board's old built-in tab carry on as they were.

OnionWatch-module.zip is the add-on itself (Python source, 70 KB), not a program to run on its own.

New in 0.2.1: Onion Watch's own look: a teal logo with a gold eye (asleep in the tray while nothing is watched) and the Hoot theme. Hoot waits on the empty page.
