PDF Tools v0.14.0
Optional Lumin e-signing
PDF Tools can now connect a Lumin account in the browser, preview the exact
document and recipients locally, send a signing request only after explicit
confirmation, check its status, and download completed agreements or
certificates without exposing temporary download links.
The rest of PDF Tools remains local-first. No PDF is sent to Lumin unless the
user deliberately invokes the Lumin workflow and confirms the exact request.
Account creation and consent stay in Lumin's browser experience. Lumin setup is
optional and does not affect local PDF workflows.
More reliable extraction and comparison
This release improves difficult born-digital PDFs, including invisible text
layers, rotated text, segmented and captioned tables, page furniture,
mathematical gaps, XFA documents, and malformed inputs. Markdown conversion
preserves more legitimate spacing and ambiguity instead of silently inventing
structure.
compare_pdfs now reports its coverage and unsupported regions more clearly,
so a partial comparison is not presented as a complete clean result.
Better MCP portability
PDF Tools now supports both established MCP clients and the newer MCP
2026-07-28 protocol. Compatible hosts can discover a portable PDF workflow
Skill alongside the existing tools and prompts. The public surface is now 57
tools and 14 prompts.
Reliability and safety
The release adds stricter process cleanup, source identity, packaging,
licensing, output replacement, and malformed-input checks. Lumin requests keep
durable local operation records and fail closed on ambiguous or changed state.
PDF Tools still does not bundle OCR. This release also makes no public claim
that its extraction is better than Databricks, Firecrawl, or another product;
that requires a separate comparable benchmark.
Verification
The macOS release gate passed 3,731 Vitest checks and 62 native checks, with
only intentional skips. Rights-cleared golden fixtures passed 4/4. The final
MCPB was reproduced byte-for-byte and its packed smoke exposed 57 tools and 14
prompts with native rendering and verified extraction. The share ZIP also
reproduced and passed its full contract. Production dependencies have zero
known vulnerabilities.
The preserved Windows VM could not be resumed safely, so this release does not
claim a fresh Windows-host run.
