Greybeard 0.1.2
Greybeard 0.1.2
Share approved memories between your computers while keeping the same simple local setup. Shared memory is optional and lives under App preferences > Advanced.
What's new
- One private memory store across computers. Run the headless Greybeard server behind private HTTPS and pair your devices with single-use codes. Your connected AI tools can use the same approved lessons through MCP and automatic mentoring hooks.
- Shared review and control. Review exact candidate text, confirm or correct lessons, export memories, and use the memory map across devices. Pause one device or pause the shared store for everyone.
- Protected device credentials. Each device stores its credentials in native OS protection. Server owners can grant separate review authority and revoke individual devices. Server backup and credential-reset commands support recovery.
- More reliable Windows automatic recall. The hook allows for native protected-credential startup while retaining a bounded timeout. When the server is unavailable, hooks return without shared advice and do not silently switch to another memory store.
Local memory remains the default. Pairing preserves your existing local memories and does not upload them automatically. Disconnecting returns to that retained local store. Shared-memory candidates still require exact review before they become guidance.
Download and install
- Windows x64:
Greybeard-0.1.2-windows-x64-setup.exe. Run the publisher-signed installer, then open Greybeard from Start. - Apple Silicon Mac, macOS 14+:
Greybeard-0.1.2-mac-arm64.dmg. Drag Greybeard to Applications, eject the image, then open the app. The application and DMG are Developer ID signed and notarized. - Linux x64:
Greybeard-0.1.2-linux-x64.AppImage. Mark it executable and open it from a permanent location. Linux uses SHA-256 integrity checks rather than a publisher signature.
Compare your download with SHA256SUMS.txt attached to this release. The Mac ZIP contains the complete application for updates; use the DMG for first installation. No Node, npm, Git, or Microsoft tenant connection is required to get started.
Upgrading from 0.1.1
Close Greybeard and its connected AI tools, install the new companion, and keep your existing Greybeard data directory. Open AI tools to refresh integration paths, review any conflicts, then fully restart the selected tools. Review new or changed hooks in Codex /hooks.
Existing local users can continue without configuring a server. To share memory, follow the private-server and pairing guide. Shared mode sends relevant mentoring text to your chosen private server and requires its availability for shared recall. Keep the server's SQLite database on its local disk, not a network share.
The 0.1.1 release remains available. Older versions do not support shared-memory connections; disconnect shared mode before returning to them.
Verification
Actual Claude Code conversations on Windows and an Apple Silicon Mac shared reviewed preferences over Tailscale. Validation covered later-session automatic recall, shared pause, outages, backup restoration, and credential cleanup. See the device evidence and validation limits.
Greybeard remains a 0.1 research preview. It provides advice; your AI tool's permissions and normal change controls still apply. Intel Mac and native Windows ARM64 installers are not included.
Greybeard 0.1.1
Greybeard 0.1.1
The desktop companion for Greybeard's 0.1 research preview. Review what Greybeard learns, connect your AI tools, and carry approved lessons into later work without a browser tab.
Download and install
- Windows x64: download
Greybeard-0.1.1-windows-x64-setup.exe, run it, then open Greybeard from Start. The installer and application are publisher-signed through Azure Trusted Signing. - Apple Silicon Mac, macOS 14+: download
Greybeard-0.1.1-mac-arm64.dmg, drag Greybeard to Applications, eject the disk image, then open the app. The app and DMG are Developer ID signed and notarized. - Linux x64: download
Greybeard-0.1.1-linux-x64.AppImage, mark it executable, and open it from a permanent location. Linux uses SHA-256 integrity checks, not a publisher signature.
Compare your download with SHA256SUMS.txt from this release. The Mac ZIP is the complete signed application used for updates; the DMG is the normal first-install download. No Node, npm, Git, or Microsoft tenant connection is required to start.
Included
- Native companion for first-run setup, integration status, memory review, corrections, forgetting, advice activity, and preferences.
- Automatic discovery of supported AI tools, reviewed conflict repair, and setup results that distinguish installed configuration from observed host activity.
- Automatic mentoring through supported Claude Code/Desktop Code, Codex, Gemini, Copilot CLI and Cursor events. Cursor prompt advice appears in the companion; its supported session/tool events provide model context. Ordinary Claude Desktop Chat remains MCP-assisted.
- Proposed operating preferences stay inactive until you approve their exact wording. Confirmed lessons can inform later relevant work across connected tools.
- A larger interactive memory globe with exact details, saved-time filtering, correction links, and an accessible flat view.
- Optional infrastructure connection with your own app registration, using a client secret in protected OS storage or a certificate. No connection is required for local memory.
- Complete-application update checks, optional downloads, and retained previous-app recovery. Notify is the default; installing an update requires an explicit restart.
Upgrading
Close Greybeard and the connected AI tools before installing. Keep your local Greybeard data directory. The companion uses the existing memory database; do not overwrite it with an older snapshot.
After installation, open AI tools and apply setup to refresh integration paths. Review any conflicts, fully restart the selected tools, and review new or changed Greybeard hooks in Codex /hooks.
The earlier standalone executable does not acquire the companion through its old updater. Install this companion manually first. The existing v0.1.0 release is retained for recovery.
Boundaries
Greybeard supplies advice, not enforcement or guaranteed model compliance. Your AI tool's permissions and your organization's change controls still apply. Automatic support depends on the host and mode listed above.
Retrieval and mentoring rules make no separate model call. Relevant context can still increase your AI client's normal token usage. Memories require local confirmation before becoming guidance.
Intel Mac and native Windows ARM64 installers are not included. Linux is unsigned. The project is free and remains in the 0.1 research preview.
Greybeard 0.1
Greybeard 0.1 brings local mentor setup and confirmed memory to your AI clients in one executable.

Download SHA256SUMS.txt and verify your asset checksum before opening it. On Mac, open the DMG, drag Greybeard.app into Applications, eject the image, then open Greybeard from Applications. The app includes its runtime and requires no developer tools.
On Windows, place the executable at %LOCALAPPDATA%\Greybeard\bin\greybeard.exe and double-click it. The Linux archive contains the executable greybeard; move it to a permanent location before setup.
For Mac terminal setup:
"/Applications/Greybeard.app/Contents/MacOS/GreybeardLauncher" setupInstallation instructions · Features and current limits
Greybeard includes local graphical and terminal setup, human-confirmed lessons with corrections and bounded recall, local memory MCP tools, and advisory context for supported Claude Code commands. Optional customer-owned tenant credentials are supported on POSIX systems; production tenant writes remain disabled.
Windows tenant credentials and automatic executable replacement are not implemented. This release has no configured automatic-update feed; updates use verified manual downloads. Claude Code advice does not pause command execution and may appear afterward. Your AI client's normal token usage still applies.
Windows signing is verified as Ugurlabs UG (haftungsbeschränkt), file version 0.1.0.0, with SHA-256 Authenticode and a trusted RFC3161 timestamp. The Mac executable and embedded SQLite library are signed with the same Apple Developer ID; Apple accepted the notarization submission. Both the Mac app and disk image now carry stapled notarization tickets. DMG verification covers installed startup, SQLite, client configuration at the installed path, and the terminal installer. Replace the complete app for future manual updates. Per-platform metadata records source and signing evidence.

DMG packaging and shell installer source: 09570fe8dcdd7e6b27db6c139640962516670c78. The runtime remains byte-for-byte identical to the original v0.1.0 software at d1547bd2ab5741b69e2c32ab623a1a25178c517a; the tag has not moved. greybeard-darwin-arm64.dmg.metadata.json records both sources. The original Mac tar archive remains available as a legacy CLI asset and for reproducibility.
