OpenNOW v1.0.1 adds native application icons and authenticated updates to the Qt desktop client.

What's changed

  • Native OpenNOW icons for Windows, Linux, and macOS.
  • Ed25519-signed update manifests for every package, with the verification key pinned into the application core and update helper.
  • Apple Silicon packages signed with Developer ID, notarized by Apple, and stapled. Gatekeeper verification passed for the apps extracted from both the DMG and ZIP.
  • FSR 1 upscaling on Windows/Linux, persistent in-game settings, background-stream audio options, and store selection improvements.
  • Fixes for input routing, update-helper lock cleanup, and release packaging.

Download and update

Coming from v1.0.0 or another build without the pinned update key? Install v1.0.1 manually once. That establishes trust for future signed updates. Automatic checks and optional downloads still require confirmation before installation and restart; an active stream is not silently closed to install an update.

  • Windows x64 / ARM64: Choose the MSI installer or extract the entire portable ZIP. These packages are not Authenticode-signed, so SmartScreen or an unknown-publisher warning may appear. Ed25519 authenticates OpenNOW's update downloads; it does not establish a Windows publisher identity.
  • macOS Apple Silicon, macOS 13+: Open the DMG and drag OpenNOW into Applications, or extract the ZIP. Both contain the signed, notarized application. Intel Macs are not included.
  • Linux x64 / ARM64: Choose the AppImage or DEB. Make the AppImage executable before launching. DEBs bundle Qt, SDL3, and the media runtime. Linux packaging was validated on Ubuntu 24.04; GPU decoding still requires a compatible host driver.

Flatpak updates remain managed externally and are not part of this native package set.

Verification and limits

Each package has an exact .manifest.json sibling. SHA256SUMS covers the packages, manifests, and RELEASE-INFO.json. All ten production signatures and package hashes were verified before publication.

CI covered platform builds, package checks, Linux graphics tests, macOS notarization and relocated-bundle checks, and update-helper tests. This does not establish live GFN gameplay or hardware compatibility on every device. Windows ARM64 was cross-built, not tested on ARM64 hardware. A real upgrade between two published production-signed versions has not yet been validated; v1.0.1 is the first such release.

Known issue: Alliance Partners may not work correctly.
