Install the package enigma2-plugin-systemplugins-powercockpit and restart Enigma2. It replaces the plugin SafePowerOff (enigma2-plugin-systemplugins-safepoweroff), which is removed when you install PowerCockpit.
PowerCockpit uses the job manager of JobCockpit to see what is running in the background. The package depends on enigma2-plugin-systemplugins-jobcockpit, which the package manager installs with it.
There is no setup screen and no entry in a menu (the one option is described in Hiding the message). When Enigma2 starts, PowerCockpit replaces the standby screen and the shutdown screen of Enigma2 with its own. From then on every way of shutting down goes through it: the power menu, the power key, a timer, a power timer of Enigma2, and so on.
You choose Shutdown (deep standby). The box looks at what it is doing:
1. Nothing is going on. It shuts down at once, like with the original Enigma2.
2. Something is going on. It does not shut down. A message names the reason (see The messages) and says "Entering standby. Shutdown will proceed when all activities are finished." After 5 seconds the box goes into standby, the screen goes dark, and PowerCockpit waits. It checks every 10 seconds, and every time a recording ends. As soon as nothing is going on any more the box shuts down.
3. You switch the box on again (power key) while it is waiting. The shutdown is cancelled and the box is normal again.
If the box was already in standby when the shutdown was asked for, for example by a timer, it waits in the same way, without a message.
When the box does shut down, it tells the TV to go to standby if HDMI-CEC is enabled, and runs the script /usr/scripts/standby_enter.sh if you have one. The TV is also told to go to standby at the moment the box starts to wait (after the message, or at once if there is no message because the box was already in standby or the message is switched off), and again at the shutdown. This does not depend on the HDMI-CEC setting Put TV in standby.
The message before the box goes to standby can be switched off. There is no setup screen for it: stop Enigma2, set
config.plugins.powercockpit.show_idle_msg=false
in /etc/enigma2/settings, and start Enigma2 again. The box then goes to standby right away, without the message, and waits and shuts down as described. The default is true (the message is shown). The questions for a reboot or restart are always shown.
| What | Waits until |
|---|---|
| Recordings | No recording timer is running. Timers that only zap to a channel do not count |
| A timer that starts soon | The next recording timer is more than 6 minutes away. If a recording starts in less than 6 minutes, the box stays in standby, the timer starts the recording, and the box shuts down after it (or waits again for the next timer) |
| Background jobs | All jobs of all plugins are finished or removed: downloads, file operations (move, copy, delete), timeshift recordings, and the jobs of Enigma2 itself. Only the internal SoftcamCheck job is ignored |
| Streaming | No client is connected to a stream of the box (for example a player on another device, or OpenWebif streaming) |
| Timeshift | You are not in timeshift (the message You seem to be in timeshift! is shown) |
The setting Task warning on shutdown of Enigma2 decides whether jobs alone hold back a shutdown that you ask for. With it off, a box that has only jobs running shuts down at once. If something else holds the shutdown back (a recording, a client), the jobs are waited for as well.
The reason is shown in a short message before the box goes to standby. Several can be shown together:
| Message | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Recording(s) are in progress or coming up in few seconds! | A recording is running or starts within 6 minutes |
| 1 job is running in the background! / N jobs are running in the background! | Jobs are running or waiting |
| You seem to be in timeshift! | A timeshift is active |
| A client is streaming from this box! | Somebody streams from the box |
For the other ways to leave Enigma2 (reboot, restart of the user interface, Kodi, recovery mode, an upgrade or a restore) the box does not wait. If something is going on it asks: the reason, followed by the question, for example "Really reboot now?". With a recording running or about to start the answer No is preselected. If you confirm, the recording is cut off like with the original Enigma2.
If a recording ends while the question is open and no other timer is near, the box continues by itself.
| Plugin | What PowerCockpit does with it |
|---|---|
| JobCockpit | Asks its job managers whether jobs are pending, so the jobs of every plugin that uses it (downloads of MediathekCockpit, timeshift recordings of TimeshiftCockpit, file operations of MovieCockpit) hold back the shutdown |
| MovieCockpit (with CacheCockpit) | When you shut the box down, it first empties the trashcan of the movie list (if Enable auto trashcan cleanup is on, using the retention period set there) and archives recordings (if Enable archive is on). These file operations are jobs, so the box then waits for them like for any other job |
Without MovieCockpit nothing is cleaned or archived, and the rest works the same. See the MovieCockpit wiki for the trashcan and archive settings.
The standby screen is a copy of the one of Enigma2 with a few changes, so standby behaves as you know it: the picture and the channel stop, the sound is muted, the display shows the clock (it blinks during a recording if you set that), and leaving standby brings back the channel you watched. Scripts you may have are run: /usr/scripts/standby_enter.sh when the box goes into standby and /usr/scripts/standby_leave.sh when it comes back. If a timeshift is running when you press standby, you are asked about it first.
The box does not shut down. It is waiting for something. Check the jobs (the JobCockpit screen), the recordings and timers (a timer that starts within 6 minutes holds it back), and whether a device is streaming from the box. Streams that are left open, for example by an app in the background, count as a client.
The box shuts down while a download is running. The download is not a job of a plugin that uses JobCockpit, or Task warning on shutdown is off in the settings of Enigma2. A recording or a client does not behave like this.
I switched the box on and it shut down again. Pressing the power key while PowerCockpit waits cancels the shutdown. If the shutdown was started by a timer later, it is a new shutdown.
PowerCockpit does not load (an error about JobCockpit in the log).
PowerCockpit needs JobCockpit. Install enigma2-plugin-systemplugins-jobcockpit (it is a dependency of the package, so it is normally there).
I want the original behaviour back. Remove the package and restart Enigma2.
Reporting a problem.
Messages of the plugin start with POC: in the Enigma2 debug log. Attach the log together with what you did, and the image you use.
