• Yin, R. K. (2013). Case study research: Design and methods. Sage publications. [ePub is in code repo] ... Yin's book is really the foundation of case study research, and many disciplines view this as the gold standard for case study research design.
• Gerring, J. (2006). Case study research: Principles and practices. Cambridge University Press. [PDF is in code repo] Gerring is a very good second to Yin, with a focus that is more solidly grounded in political science. Case study selection is a particular strength of this book.

Longer works of case study research.

My go-to for case study research is Howard Becker. For a number of reasons, but most saliently because Becker asks "How" research questions. Meaning he is often concerned with procedural aspects of how a thing comes to be seen by society in the way that it does.
