Project Updates

6/23/17

This project has evolved slightly over the last few weeks, as detailed in the plan of work.
We have appropriately scoped it this past week, and are moving forward at a good clip.

We are working on developing an Open Data UnConference framework detailing event logistics, goals, learning objectives, lesson plans and curriculum. I began by researching Open Data Literacy competencies in an effort to ensure the event aligns with some commonly agreed upon proficiencies in this domain. This week I have identified specific target audiences for the event, as well as set learning goals. I have also started defining learning objectives for the event as a whole, and begun generating some ideas around topics for each of the two Breakout Sessions.
Finally, I have started to put together a lesson plan template.

Over the next few weeks, I will meet with folks around the library and begin delving into some of the event logistics.

7/11/17

The staff and public event dates have been set. The public event is set for September 9, 2017 (10:30 - 1), and staff for September 20, 2017 (9:30 - 12). We have reserved the rooms at the central library and put the events on the calendar of events. In order to do this, we have developed a summary and description for both events. We have also contacted SPL marketing for the production of promotional materials. I also drafted social media copy for the event for the public.

In regard to the Breakout sessions we have solidified topics, session descriptions, and presenters for each of the sessions (See Working Document:ODL workshop event framework Wiki). The link to the actual framework and marketing documents is in the drive folder linked at the top of that Wiki page. We have tentatively scheduled someone for closing words for the public event.

Over the next few weeks, I will be firming up all speakers and presenters and sending out emails to each with event specifics and what we are asking of them. I will also be creating a 'Start Here' document and separate corresponding wiki on this git repository as a step by step toolkit reflective of our planning process to be included as part of the final deliverable. I will continue to do research into Open Data outcome metrics, that may be useful in survey development for the event.
