This firmware supports the new Sensor Expander and the Expanded Sensor API. Build-number updates (e.g. from 2.2.1(4) to 2.2.1(5)) preserve all existing settings and programs. Regardless, before updating, we always recommend exporting a copy of your current configuration.

Compatability: Firmware 2.2.1(5) is compatible with OpenSprinkler v3 (v3.0-3.4) and OSPi/Linux. It no longer supports OpenSprinkler v2.3 (legacy hardware, no built-in WiFi, discontinued 10 years ago). OpenSprinkler v2.3 users should remain on Firmware 2.2.1(4).

Main Changes

  • Sensor Expander and Expanded Sensors API: A new framework for analog sensors and virtual sensors (e.g. Aggregate and System-Internal). The new Sensor Expander provides 16 analog input channels for sensors such as soil-moisture, temperature, water-level, light, and pressure sensors. Sensor readings can be displayed, logged, and used to adjust program watering times through configurable adjustment curves.

  • Extended Master Support: Increases the number of supported master stations from two to four, including independent on/off adjustments and per-zone master selection.

  • Additional Built-in Sensor Ports: Enables SN3 and SN4 on OpenSprinkler v3.4, providing four built-in digital sensor ports in total.

  • Extended Effective Watering Durations: Station runtimes adjusted by weather or Expanded Sensors may exceed the previous 18-hour limit, up to the firmware's seven-day runtime limit. While programmed water times remain limited to 18 hours, effective water times (after weather and sensor adjustments) are allowed to exceed this limit.

  • Networking and OTC Reliability: Updates the OpenThings Framework and TinyWebsockets libraries, improves connection recovery and HTTP/WebSocket handling, and fixes Linux socket resource leaks.

  • OSPi, Linux, and Docker Improvements: Fixes platform-dependent time handling on 32-bit and 64-bit Linux, improves ADS1115 detection, and updates the Docker image to build the hardware-enabled OSPi target so GPIO operation is available.

  • Bug Fixes and Minor Improvements:

    • Correctly attributes repeated Run-Once programs in sprinkler logs and last-run records.
    • Fixes bounds and validation issues involving parallel station groups and manual station commands.
    • Improves large sensor-log queries and per-sensor log deletion responsiveness.
    • Adds firmware and hardware versions to the LCD information screen.
    • Includes memory-management, parsing, timer-rollover, and long-term reliability fixes.
