Better Forum Layout

Currently the other discussion groups are pretty dead. It would be nice to have an interface similar to GF, which in my view does it beautifully.

The first page is a listing of all new threads from all groups. This will expose users to more posts from different discussion groups and thus increase the likely hood of more responses and activity in all groups. I do believe it will make the forum more lively.

Screen caps please... not every has your user.js installed here. I assume this a UI enhancement so marking as such.

No need for screen caps. The GF main forum page (https://greasyfork.org/en/forum/) without any scripts running shows what I mean.

You can see the listing of all the latest posts from across all the discussion categories/groups. It's all in one place. This encourages people to participate on other forum threads and look into other groups. Only time I go to other groups on OUJS is when I need to ask a question otherwise I just look at the initial page.

In GF you find titles of interest at the front page and find yourself joining in the thread.

I'll reexamine this later this evening when I'm more into coding/theory but consider this... If someone, say a developer, can't immediately figure out what you are talking about... this will never get assigned and eventually be closed as stale/invalid/etc e.g. whatever labeling... I appreciate your ideas but I missed the point and I am busy with other duties at the moment.

Below screenshot of the page in question. As you can see the listing from all discussion categories are listed on the front page. The top one being "What do you want?". Had it not been on the front page I would have never come across it and participated, as I rarely click on "Site Feedback" or any other forum category. I am also sure that is the case for most users.

Right now the only way to know if there are any new posts in the forum categories (Announcement, The Garage, Beggar's Corner, General Discussion) is to enter the forum. There is no Title & date of the latest post on the front page for each category heading. If you have the method displayed below there would be no need.

So you want to have a visitor/author go to https://openuserjs.org/forum , see new posts first for all discussion categories with a created date and an updated date with a little more visible distinction besides the little / between the author and scriptname (and the url of course which says what it is) versus the existing forum names you mentioned... is that right?

I'm feeling like this is another "want" here... e.g. the .list-group (forum names only) you would like to have the most recent post mirrored in that list from the below table.

Well... I'm not real fond of gf's interface because it reminds me too much of a wordstar/wordperfect/classic word with a document interface shudders...e.g. not exactly visibly friendly to my eye so I'm not so sure that we'll reorder but mockups are always appreciated... I do occasionally install your OUJS-1 script (and others too in the openuserjs.org group) just to see if something could work across all platforms including portable devices... sooo... you know what I might be asking next. ;) ...

demo? even if it's just a Inspector/Firebug remap.... doesn't have to be perfect as usual... or even a simple "paint" drawing with labels on where you think things should go.

If you want a bigger more satisfying challenge you can try a fork of OUJS you could examine and modify one of the the existing views and point us to it. :) We are open to ease of use for sure with some visual aesthetics by examining as many aspects as possible.

The first suggestion sample image below. The table is meant to be on the side. The front page table would contain all new posts from all discussion groups and not just "Script Issues". Clicking on discussion category on the side will then display only selected category posts.

The second suggestion, which is separate and alternate suggestion, is simply just posting the latest post. Very simple but helpful in keeping people informed on changes in the other discussion groups.

I'd also be interested in the recent post too to fill it out a bit for wider viewports... even though we already show the most recent forum topic in the table... but if a bunch of script discussions were sent through at some point anyone would miss the forum discussions by having to use pagination. Great that we are all nearing being on the same page. :)

I've been working on adding a fifth discussion category called Issues to filter all script issues in there.

I also have the logic to filter out all issues from the main forum page. Wondering if people support that...?

Yes! ... I think there might be an open issue for that... but will need a relook.

I think it was a QSP filter though (so in the table column header)... let me finish up some stuff here and I'll try to find that... hmm might have been a passing comment... but there's the spark in my synapse recollection.
