First release of HourCalc: convert between h:mm and decimal hours and calculate with hours, as a small native app for Windows and Linux.

Downloads

system file
Windows 10 (1809 or later) and 11, x64 HourCalc-1.0.0-windows-x64.exe (portable, no installation)
Debian 13 (trixie), amd64 hourcalc_1.0.0-1.deb13_amd64.deb
Ubuntu 26.04 LTS, amd64 hourcalc_1.0.0-1.ubuntu26.04_amd64.deb

SHA256SUMS.txt lists the SHA-256 checksum of every file.

(GitHub replaces the ~ of the Debian file names with a .; inside, the package version is
1.0.0-1~deb13 or 1.0.0-1~ubuntu26.04 as usual.)

Windows: download the exe and run it. It writes nothing next to itself; settings go to
%LOCALAPPDATA%\HourCalc\HourCalc.ini when you change one. The exe is signed with Optimey's own
code-signing certificate, which is not issued by a public certificate authority, so Windows
SmartScreen may warn the first time you run a downloaded copy. Compare the checksum with
SHA256SUMS.txt if you want to be sure.

Linux: the easiest way is the Optimey APT repository, which also brings every later version
with the normal system updates:

# Debian 13
sudo wget -O /etc/apt/sources.list.d/optimey.sources https://apt.optimey.be/debian13.sources
# Ubuntu 26.04 LTS
sudo wget -O /etc/apt/sources.list.d/optimey.sources https://apt.optimey.be/ubuntu26.04.sources

sudo apt update
sudo apt install hourcalc

The .sources file carries the repository's public key, "Optimey CommV APT repository",
fingerprint A243 70A9 56BF B9F0 FE66 D1D7 332E 513D AD86 6F27. A downloaded package installs as
well, but then without updates:

sudo apt install ./hourcalc_1.0.0-1.deb13_amd64.deb # Debian 13
sudo apt install ./hourcalc_1.0.0-1.ubuntu26.04_amd64.deb # Ubuntu 26.04

The package holds both front ends: GTK 4 with libadwaita (GNOME and other desktops) and Qt 6
(KDE Plasma). hourcalc picks the right one; HOURCALC_UI=gtk or HOURCALC_UI=qt chooses by hand.

What is in 1.0.0

  • Converter: hours and minutes on one side, decimal hours on the other, both directions live.
  • Calculator: add, subtract, multiply and divide with durations (07:30 + 07:20 = 14:50, 14,83).
  • Theme Auto, Light or Dark; 2 to 6 decimal places; decimal comma or point from your regional
    settings.
  • Native on every platform: C++ and Win32 on Windows (no .NET, no DirectX, opens in about a tenth of
a second), GTK 4 with libadwaita and Qt 6 on Linux, on one shared and extensively tested core.
