Changes since the previous snapshot
Added
- Nineteen new songs on the in-house stations. Glory Road, Puro Tejano and Neon Drive each have a full eight-song rotation now, and the Night Line has two more slow ballads. Until now those three stations repeated one to three songs.
- Passing and crossing traffic sounds like the vehicle it is. A pickup, a motorcycle, a bus or a farm tractor going by, and every vehicle crossing in front of you at a ramp end, now plays a recorded-style cue instead of the stand-in tone the game shipped with in August. The cues still pan to the side the vehicle is on.
Changed
- Station breaks run more like radio. Every twelve songs a station now airs two host breaks, four station IDs and three commercials, with the commercials in stopsets of two and one, each followed by the station naming itself. Before, the same stretch carried one commercial.
- Steering and assisted lane changes use the mechanical blinker sound. The automatic position cue and full-assist lane-change signals wait for each recording to finish before repeating. Their panning, the I-key lane locator, and center chime are unchanged. The clicks follow your position while sounding and stop when the move ends or you open a menu. Thanks to Tim (@trssharp) for the original audio contribution.
- The engine follows your position within the lane. With partial or off lane keeping, its sound moves continuously left and right with your truck. Full lane keeping centers it. The lane locator remains unchanged.
- You can read another driver's profile without leaving the game. On the Drivers on duty list, press Enter on a driver to open their public profile. It reads their career, achievements, and latest road journal entries, one fact per row, using the same information as orinks.net. Choose Your profile on the Online menu to hear your own. Private profiles remain private; your own profile tells you which sharing setting to enable.
- You can choose to stay a company driver. In Business status, choose Stay a company driver to stop the owner-operator reminders. The buy-in remains available, and Reopen the owner-operator plan restores the reminders.
- Owner-operators can return to company driving. Go back to company driving in Business status asks you to confirm twice. Your carrier buys every tractor and trailer you own: the buy-in tractor at its purchase price, and later purchases at their used value. You return to company wages and a carrier tractor with the same carrier. Your record is unchanged, and you can buy in again later.
- Yield signs and roundabouts at ramp ends, where the map really has them. About fourteen hundred exits whose ramps end at a give-way or a roundabout now say so and play by yield rules: slow, listen for your gap, roll through at low speed if the road is clear, and stop only when it is not. Stopping is always legal, and route-transition assistance rolls a clear yield instead of braking to a needless stop.
- Traffic jams where traffic really jams. The game now knows how many vehicles a day each stretch of road actually carries, taken from the federal highway survey, so congestion is placed from real volumes instead of a rough guess that almost never produced a jam. Run I-5 through Los Angeles or I-15 out of Santa Ana at five in the afternoon and you will meet stop-and-go, because those roads are over capacity then; the same roads at three in the morning are clear, and a quiet rural highway never jams at all.
- Balanced and All assists now stop the truck at the facility for you. Facility stopping assistance is part of the driving assistance presets again: Realistic leaves it off, Balanced and All assists turn it on, and changing it by hand reads as Custom. A fresh install on Balanced used to coast past its own pickup unless you braked. A saved choice made before presets existed is kept as it was.
- Fuel counts toward your truck's weight. Burning diesel makes the truck lighter, and refueling adds the weight back. Load offers and fuel menus tell you how much room remains under the gross-weight limit.
- Worn components can put your truck out of service. Brakes, tires, and the engine give advance service warnings. At their service limit, the truck needs repair even if its overall damage is low.
- Rest advice names the last suitable stop within your hours. The clock readout checks the remaining drive and time to enter the stop. You hear a warning before passing the last reachable stop when rest is needed before your destination, or an explanation when none is reachable.
Fixed
- The clock key counts the whole run while you are still on the streets out of the pickup. Before the on-ramp it estimated arrival from the two miles of city streets alone, so a 123-mile run read as "arrival in 0.1 hours". It now adds the highway at its route pace and judges the on-schedule verdict against the whole run.
- The speed readout says when a slow car is setting the speed keeper's number. A car doing 51 ahead of you in a 58 zone kept the truck at 51, and Space answered "speed keeper holding 58" every time. It now says "holding 51 for the traffic ahead, set 58", the same shape adaptive cruise already uses.
- A long sleeper-berth rest no longer runs your duty window down while you sleep. Seven or more hours in the berth, the long half of an 8 and 2 or 7 and 3 split, now stops the 14-hour window for as long as you sleep, the way an ELD does. You wake with the same window you went to bed with, and the wake-up line says the window paused and when it closes. Before, seven hours of duty followed by an 8-hour sleep left you out of hours on waking, with the split still owed. The shorter half of a split still counts until the pair is complete.
- A voice that cannot start no longer prevents speech fallback. The game skips failed voices and tries the next available one instead of selecting a voice that cannot speak.
- Agent playtests retain spoken readouts during busy sound output. Repeated sound cues no longer crowd later speech out of the agent's response.
- Bobtail trips to find work use your driving hours. Choosing the trip yourself no longer records commercial repositioning as off duty. Stops during that travel count as on-duty time.
- Braking estimates use the brakes each situation calls for. Planning and hazard warnings allow for service braking and time to react. Service and emergency stopping estimates use the same brake-force calculation as the truck.
- Windows source builds no longer request unavailable Rust tools. The build uses the required compiler components even when your Rust installation is set to download every optional tool.
- The manual gives consistent speed-warning, police, and backup instructions. It clarifies the U key, speeding charges, and where Linux saves are stored. Driving assistance now has shorter sections for finding each control.
- Speech recovery keeps its replacement voices connected. If a voice stops responding during a drive, restoring your speech settings and checking the voices no longer reconnects to the stalled voice. Your chosen event voice, voice settings and braille-only preference are preserved during recovery.
