πŸ–§ Supported Switch Matrix & Vendor Compatibility

This page outlines the compatibility requirements of SNMP Switch Manager, documents verified vendor models, and explains how feature support varies across network hardware.

🧭 What Makes a Switch "Supported"?

SNMP Switch Manager does not lock you into a single proprietary vendor MIB. Instead, it is built on a highly modular engine that queries:

  1. Standard RFC OIDs (supported by virtually all managed switches globally):
    • IF-MIB (interface index, description, speed, link state, administrative state, and packets).
    • BRIDGE-MIB (VLAN static egress, untagged groups, and PVID mapping).
  2. Standard Power-over-Ethernet MIBs (POWER-ETHERNET-MIB).
  3. Common Enterprise Extensions (for health metrics like CPU load and temperature status).
  4. Dynamic Community-Driven OID Templates: Vendor-specific OID mapping rules loaded in the background from our database.

Core Compatibility Rule:

If your network switch is managed, has SNMP enabled (v2c or v3), and is reachable on your network, it will work at a core level (discovering interfaces, speeds, link states, and VLAN details) regardless of the brand.

πŸ’‘ Table Key:

  • βœ” = Full out-of-the-box support via our community database.
  • - = Not supported by the switch hardware or not exposed via SNMP.

⚑ Active Port & PoE Control Compatibility

Active write commands (disabling ports, rebooting PoE devices, or updating port descriptions) depend on:

  1. SNMP Write Permissions: Your SNMP v2c community or SNMP v3 user credentials must be configured with Read-Write (RW) access permissions on the switch.
  2. Switch Firmware Capabilities:
  • Active port administrative status Up/Down relies on standard ifAdminStatus write requests. Virtually all managed switches support this.
  • Per-port PoE toggling and power rebooting rely on writing to pethPsePortAdminEnable. While standard, some switches do not support PoE writes via SNMP. Check your switch CLI or web UI documentation.

🌑️ Health Metrics (CPU, Memory, Fans, PSUs)

Switch hardware diagnostics are highly vendor-specific.

  • Many smart-managed or budget-friendly switches do not have internal CPU or temperature sensors, or they choose to hide them from SNMP tables.
  • If a sensor displays Unknown or does not appear in Home Assistant, this is normal and indicates that your switch does not expose this metric.
  • If you know your switch supports these metrics and you have the OID numbers, you can easily add them under Feature OID Overrides!

πŸš€ Adding Support for Unsupported Switch Hardware

If your switch model is not fully supported or is missing chassis health diagnostics (such as temperature or CPU load), you can help improve the integration for everyone:

  1. Look up your switch’s SNMP MIB documentation or run an snmpwalk to find the correct OIDs for the missing features.
  2. In Home Assistant, open Device Options β†’ Feature OID Overrides.
  3. Select the feature (e.g. Override Temperature), enter the OID, choose the query method, scale factor, and click Submit.
  4. Attest that you have successfully verified the OID works.
  5. Select Share this with the community.
  6. Complete the secure GitHub Device OAuth Flow shown in the options menu to automatically submit a Pull Request back to our repository!
  7. Once merged, the background dynamic OID updater will automatically sync the new template to all users globally!

Important

Before compiling OIDs or preparing community submissions, please read our Community Submissions Guide. This guide outlines how to correctly verify your OIDs, prevent frivolous submissions, and details exactly where on your switch hardware you can find this configuration data.
