SonsOfSparta-PS5 Native 0.4.1
God of War: Sons of Sparta for PS5, running on Windows through AnyPS5.
Made possible by the AnyPS5 project. The source code is in this repository.
Changelog
0.4.1
- New: frame rate option in the launcher. A Frame rate setting in the Display section lets you choose 60 FPS (the default, as before), 120 FPS or Unlocked (experimental). 120 FPS holds a steady 120 where the PC can keep up. Unlocked removes the limit and runs as fast as the game renders, up to your monitor's refresh rate, so frame times can be less even than with a fixed rate. On our test PC (RTX 5070 Ti, 1080p) 120 FPS measured 120.0 FPS in lighter scenes.
- Fixed: stray
draw_*.regsfiles in the game folder. When the game skipped a draw the driver wrote small debug dump files next to the game. It now does that only when explicitly asked to. - As always, the first run after updating rebuilds its shader cache, so expect some visual glitches and stutter for a few minutes.
0.4.0
- Much better performance on weaker CPUs. Unity's worker threads were all waiting on one global spin lock inside the PS5 kernel library, so on a PC with few cores they spent their time spinning instead of working. The lock is now split into 64 independent ones that sleep instead of spin. In our scripted test at 1080p, limited to 4 cores the game went from 8.8 FPS to 59.7 FPS on average, and limited to 2 cores from 1.8 FPS to 55.4 FPS. With every core available, CPU use dropped from about 315% to about 160% of one core.
- Faster, steadier frames on every PC. Eleven performance commits from AnyPS5 and several of its open performance changes are now included: queue registers kept in flat arrays, cheaper draw-cache keys and memory verification, fewer redundant checks and allocations while recording commands, a larger pipeline cache, and cheaper stack unwinding. On our test PC (RTX 5070 Ti, 1080p) the average went from 55.7 to 59.6 FPS and the lowest frame rate from 37.8 to 58.0 FPS, with lower CPU use.
- Fixed: slow exit. The game now shuts down cleanly instead of waiting for the exit watchdog (#17 by @saulob).
- As always, the first run after updating rebuilds its shader cache, so expect some visual glitches and stutter for a few minutes.
0.3.1
- Fixed: stretched polygons and "exploding" vertices on AMD graphics cards (#9). The logo, menus, health bar and sprites were drawn with vertices blown out across the screen. On AMD cards a vertex whose data ended partway through the last record of a vertex buffer was read back as zeros. The driver now copies the whole last record. Testers report it fixed on an RX 9060 XT and an RX 9070 XT. In our own tests on an NVIDIA card it makes no difference to frame rate or errors. Other AMD cards, such as the RX 7000 series, have not been confirmed yet, so please tell us how it goes (GPU model, driver version, a screenshot and
logs\game.err). - New: in-game cheat menu (#16). Tick Enable cheats in the launcher, then press F10 while playing to open a menu drawn over the game. It has a Player, Movement and Items page, and every cheat starts Off. Closing the menu does not turn cheats off. While the menu is open, game input is blocked so you can click it safely.
- New cheats: Pass Through Gates (F9), alongside God Mode (F1), Infinite Spartan Spirit (F2), Infinite Magic (F3), Damage Multiplier (F4), Movement Speed 2x (F5), Jump Height (F6), Add 1000 Blood Orbs (F7) and Add 10 Upgrade Materials (F8).
- New quality-of-life options, all in one section of the launcher: Show in-game FPS (a small counter in the top-left corner), Skip intro, Skip dialogue (#12), Grab ladders with Up, and Reveal full Map.
- Fixed: a disabled cheat no longer touches the game (#15). Cheats that were switched off still installed hooks at startup. Now a cheat is only patched in while it is on, and the original game code is restored exactly when it is turned off, with checks and rollback if anything goes wrong.
- As always, the first run after updating rebuilds its shader cache, so expect some visual glitches and stutter for a few minutes.
0.3.0
- Fixed scenery and sprites flickering or disappearing, a cheats menu with hotkeys, the Xbox controller View button opening the Map, and the mouse cursor hiding in fullscreen. All by @saulob.
0.2.1
- Fixed the game being prepared again, and failing, after the folder was moved or copied.
0.2.0
- Resolution options:
1080p,1440por4kthroughresolution.txtor the launcher.
How to play
- Download
SonsOfSparta-PS5-Native-0.4.1-win64.zipand extract it anywhere. - Copy your own decrypted game files into the same folder as
SonsOfSparta-PS5.exe:
eboot.bin(or a decryptedeboot.elf),sce_sys,sce_moduleandMedia. - Double-click
SonsOfSparta-PS5.exe.
Nothing to install. The very first start prepares the game from your files: a small window explains it and it takes about two minutes. Later starts are fast. Your own files are never modified.
Upgrading from an earlier version: extract over your existing folder (or copy the new SonsOfSparta-PS5.exe and libs\ into it) and keep the game files you already copied in. Your saves stay where they are.
Closing the game window ends it within a few seconds. Logs are in the logs folder.
Highlights
- The game's own x86-64 code runs directly on your CPU, with no CPU emulation. The PS5 system libraries and GPU commands are reimplemented through a compatibility layer, similar to Wine and DXVK
- Playable from the logo through gameplay, with music and sound effects
- About 60 FPS in menus and gameplay on our test PC (RTX 5070 Ti), and still about 60 FPS when limited to 4 cores in our tests
- Keyboard, mouse and any XInput/DualSense/DualShock gamepad; saves are kept next to the game
Controls
Any XInput/DualSense/DualShock gamepad works. Keyboard, mouse and gamepad can be used at the same time.
| PS5 button | Keyboard | Mouse |
|---|---|---|
| Cross | Enter / Space | |
| Circle | C | |
| Square | Left click | |
| Triangle | I | |
| L1 | Q | |
| R1 | E / Alt | |
| L2 | (no key) | |
| R2 | Right click | |
| L3 / R3 | Shift / Ctrl | |
| D-pad | Arrow keys | Mouse wheel (up = Up, down = Down) |
| Left stick | W A S D | |
| Right stick | T F G H | |
| Options | Esc | (Xbox: Menu) |
| Touchpad | Backspace / Tab | (Xbox: View) |
F11 toggles fullscreen. The middle mouse button turns mouse-aim mode on or off (the mouse is captured and drives the right stick).
Cheats
Cheats are off until you tick Enable cheats in the launcher. With that on, every cheat still starts Off. Press F10 in game for the cheat menu, or use the keys below.
| Key | Cheat |
|---|---|
| F1 | God mode |
| F2 | Infinite Spartan Spirit |
| F3 | Infinite magic |
| F4 | Damage multiplier: off / 2x / 4x / 6x |
| F5 | Movement speed 2x |
| F6 | Jump height: off / 2x / 4x / 6x |
| F7 | Add 1000 blood orbs |
| F8 | Add 10 upgrade materials |
| F9 | Pass through gates |
| F10 | Open or close the in-game cheat menu |
With cheats disabled, F1 to F10 do nothing and the game's code is left untouched. F11 still toggles fullscreen.
Frame rate
The launcher has a Frame rate setting: 60 FPS (default), 120 FPS or Unlocked (experimental). Higher rates need a PC and a display that can keep up. The choice is saved in launcher.ini.
Resolution
The game draws its scene at 4K by default and scales it to your window, which is heavy on weaker graphics cards. To lower it use the launcher resolution options or create a text file named resolution.txt next to SonsOfSparta-PS5.exe containing one word: 1080p, 1440p or 4k. Delete the file to leave the game's own setting alone. The choice is applied every time you start the game, including the very first start. The window size is not affected.
Known issues
- Unlocked frame rate is experimental and has only been tested on one PC. Please report problems with your GPU model and
logs\game.err. - Very weak CPUs: in our test limited to 2 cores, textures flickered at times. It was not seen with all cores or 4 cores. If you see it on a low-end PC, please report your CPU and
logs\game.err. - First play builds shaders: the first time you play, shaders are built while you play, so you may see visual glitches (missing or wrong-looking effects, brief stutters) until they are cached. This gets better on later runs, and it happens again after each update.
- AMD: the stretched geometry is fixed on the cards that were tested, but other AMD graphics problems may remain. If you see any, please report them with your GPU model, driver version, a screenshot and
logs\game.err. - Rare crashes or freezes can still happen, mostly during loading. Just start the game again.
- The whole game has not been completed, so not all of it is tested. Later areas may have missing graphics, audio problems or crashes.
- Intel graphics cards are untested.
- Movement speed and jump height briefly guard the video that plays between areas, so a transition may take a fraction of a second longer with them on.
Notes
- You must supply your own, legally obtained, decrypted copy of the game. No game files are included.
- Tested with: God of War: Sons of Sparta, title ID

Thank you
- @BAlanDourado tracked down why AMD graphics cards drew stretched and exploding geometry and wrote the fix that is in this release.
- @saulob built the in-game cheat menu and the new quality-of-life options, and made the cheat system safer. Everything listed as new below, apart from the AMD fix, is their work.

Changelog
All four changes in this release were contributed by @saulob.
0.3.0
- Fixed: scenery and sprites flickering or disappearing — #6 by @saulob. The big one. Rectangles of the environment, grass and shadows used to blink out while you moved through a level, and characters could vanish with them. The game asked the graphics library for something we had never implemented, so it got back an uninitialised answer and carried that into its drawing state; once the state was garbage the draws were skipped. That request is now answered properly, so the state stays valid and everything that belongs on screen is drawn.
- Cheats menu with hotkeys — #4 by @saulob. A collapsible Cheats section in the launcher, and keys you can press while playing: F1 god mode, F2 infinite Spartan Spirit, F3 infinite magic, F4 damage multiplier (off / 2x / 4x / 6x), F5 double movement speed, F6 double jump height, F7 1000 blood orbs, F8 10 upgrade materials. Cheats you tick in the launcher stay on between starts; the rest are one keypress away. This release also folds in the startup-intro skip option from #3.
- Fixed: Xbox controller View button now opens the Map — #2 by @saulob. Xbox pads have no touchpad, and the game's Map is bound to that button, so it was unreachable on an Xbox controller. View is now mapped to the touchpad button. Menu still opens Options, and DualSense/DualShock behaviour is unchanged.
- Fixed: mouse cursor in fullscreen — #5 by @saulob. The cursor hides after 5 seconds without mouse movement in fullscreen and comes back the moment you move the mouse. Windowed and maximised-windowed keep the cursor always, and it returns when the window loses focus. Nice for controller play and for clean recordings.
- As always: the first run after updating rebuilds its shader cache, so expect a few minutes of visual glitches and stutters before it settles. This is per-build, not a regression.

- Keyboard, mouse and any XInput/DualSense/DualShock gamepad; saves are kept next to the game
Controls
Any XInput/DualSense/DualShock gamepad works. Keyboard, mouse and gamepad can be used at the same time.
| PS5 button | Keyboard | Mouse |
|---|---|---|
| Cross | Enter / Space | |
| Circle | C | |
| Square | Left click | |
| Triangle | I | |
| L1 | Q | |
| R1 | E / Alt | |
| L2 | (no key) | |
| R2 | Right click | |
| L3 / R3 | Shift / Ctrl | |
| D-pad | Arrow keys | Mouse wheel (up = Up, down = Down) |
| Left stick | W A S D | |
| Right stick | T F G H | |
| Options | Esc | (Xbox: Menu) |
| Touchpad | Backspace / Tab | (Xbox: View) |
F11 toggles fullscreen. The middle mouse button turns mouse-aim mode on or off (the mouse is captured and drives the right stick).
Cheats
Open SonsOfSparta-PS5.exe and expand the Cheats section. Ticked cheats start enabled; the rest are one keypress away while you play, and the game window title shows which ones are active.
| Key | Cheat |
|---|---|
| F1 | God mode |
| F2 | Infinite Spartan Spirit |
| F3 | Infinite magic |
| F4 | Damage multiplier: off / 2x / 4x / 6x |
| F5 | Movement speed 2x |
| F6 | Jump height 2x |
| F7 | Add 1000 blood orbs |
| F8 | Add 10 upgrade materials |
F7 and F8 hand the items to the game's own pickup system, so they arrive the way a normal pickup does. Each cheat is checked against the game build before anything is patched; on a build we don't recognise the window title says unavailable rather than guessing.
- First play builds shaders: the first time you play, shaders are built while you play, so you may see visual glitches (missing or wrong-looking effects, brief stutters) until they are cached. This gets better on later runs, and it happens again after each update.
- Rare crashes or freezes can still happen, mostly during loading. Just start the game again.
- The whole game has not been completed, so not all of it is tested. Later areas may have missing graphics, audio problems or crashes.
- Tested on an NVIDIA graphics card only. AMD and Intel are untested.
- Movement speed and jump height briefly guard the video that plays between areas, so a transition may take a fraction of a second longer with them on.
SonsOfSparta-PS5 Native 0.2.2
SonsOfSparta-PS5 Native 0.2.2
God of War: Sons of Sparta for PS5, running on Windows through AnyPS5.
Made possible by the AnyPS5 project. The source code is in this repository.
Changelog
All four changes in this release were contributed by @saulob.
0.2.2
- Fixed: the startup intro video now plays — #13 by @saulob. It used to sit on a dark frozen picture for about 10 seconds and then jump to the menu. The player was running out of output buffers: with only the game's own two, one is always held by the game, so a caller that skips late frames itself never found the next one ready. The decoder now keeps four buffers ahead.
- Native launcher display settings — #7 by @saulob. Window, fullscreen and resolution choices are now real launcher controls, not just the
resolution.txtfile. - First-start preparation screen rebuilt — #8 by @saulob. It now shows what it is doing and how far it has got, instead of looking like a stalled window for two minutes.
- Fixed display scaling on high-DPI and mixed-DPI monitors — #11 by @saulob, in both the launcher window and the game window. If the game looked tiny, oversized or blurry on a 4K or scaled display, that is fixed.
- As always: the first run after updating rebuilds its shader cache, so expect a few minutes of visual glitches and stutters before it settles. This is per-build, not a regression.
How to play
- Download
SonsOfSparta-PS5-Native-0.2.2-win64.zipand extract it anywhere. - Copy your own decrypted game files into the same folder as
SonsOfSparta-PS5.exe:
eboot.bin(or a decryptedeboot.elf),sce_sys,sce_moduleandMedia. - Double-click
SonsOfSparta-PS5.exe.
Nothing to install. The very first start prepares the game from your files: a small window explains it and it takes about two minutes. Later starts are fast. Your own files are never modified.
Upgrading from 0.2.0 or 0.2.1: extract over your existing folder (or copy the new SonsOfSparta-PS5.exe and libs\ into it) and keep the game files you already copied in.
- About 60 FPS in menus and gameplay on our test PC (RTX 5070 Ti)
- Keyboard and any XInput/DualSense/DualShock gamepad; saves are kept next to the game
