How It Works
Dreambound turns beds into checkpoints. The loop is four steps.
Sleep in a bed, or bind your spawn to a charged respawn anchor, and Dreambound photographs your inventory, armour, offhand, XP and any accessory slots from supported mods. Nothing is taken from you, the snapshot is a copy.
You get a message when it happens (notifySnapshotSaved, on by default).
The snapshot is tied to the place that made it. Break that bed or anchor and the dream fades with it, unless the server turned clearSnapshotOnSpawnpointDestroyed off.
Go out. Mine, fight, explore, haul loot home. Nothing about the snapshot changes while you play; it is a still photograph of the moment you slept, not a live backup.
You wake up holding what you slept with. Concretely, for every slot Dreambound keeps the smaller of what you slept with and what you had at death.
That "smaller of" is the whole design, and it is what stops the mod being a duplication machine:
- Slept with 64 cobblestone, built with 40, died with 24 → you keep 24. Not 64.
- Slept with 10 arrows, found 54 more, died with 64 → you keep 10, and 54 drop.
- Slept with a fresh sword, wore it to half durability, died → you keep it at half durability. Wear is permanent; there are no free repairs.
- Slept with nothing in a slot → anything there at death is new loot, and it drops.
Everything Dreambound did not keep drops at your death coordinates, exactly as vanilla would drop it. Go and get it.
With Universal Graves installed it goes into a grave instead, and you get the grave compass back so you can find it.
The interesting consequence is that risk becomes about the run, not the loadout. Your kit is safe, so a dangerous trip costs you the ore you were carrying rather than your gear. That is the "soft extraction" shape: you are always deciding whether to bank what you are holding or push further.
The exact keep/forfeit rules, slot by slot, are in Rules and Edge Cases.
