Void 1.6.0: the liquid notch
Already have Void? Settings → More → Update now (Windows, Linux packages and git installs).
New on Linux? curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/PLAYER99-void/void/main/get.sh | bash
The notch, reworked
- He melts into the screen edge like a liquid when you drag him there, and drips back out when you pull him away. His colour fades to black as he becomes the notch.
- Snappy: it takes about 0.4 s, and grabbing him mid-animation snaps it straight to the end. Pulled out, he pops out under your mouse while the notch melts back into the wall on its own.
- More like macOS: smooth spring motion, no glow at rest, and rounder corners when it opens up.
- His terminal and his words no longer overlap in the notch: they stack, and the notch grows to fit both.
- His glow is never cut off by an invisible square any more.
- The menu's top bar / blob button is gone: drag him into an edge, or out of it.
Also
- Starry eyes after every finished task (when he used tools), with a green flash in the notch. Before, he usually skipped it because he was still talking. A failed task shows a sad face and a red flash.
- No more confetti when he leaves the notch.
- A faint square of pixels around his glow is gone.

Void 1.5.4: hears headsets that send your voice on channel 2
Already have Void? Settings → More → Update now (Windows, Linux packages and git installs).
New on Linux? curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/PLAYER99-void/void/main/get.sh | bash
Fixed
- Headsets that send your voice on the second channel only. Void recorded the first channel, which on those headsets is just background noise, so he never heard a word. Void now records both channels and keeps the one your voice is on (Windows).
Better help when he can't hear you
void doctor now shows:
- the mic it actually recorded: its name, driver, channels, and which channel it records;
- for each channel, how loud you came in and how long there was talking in it;
- a clear verdict. "NO VOICE … only background noise" means the mic isn't sending your voice: it's muted on the headset or in its app (INZONE Hub, G HUB…), or it's not the mic you're talking into.
- a recording of what it heard, saved as
doctor.wav, so you can listen to it yourself.
The diagnostics report (Settings → More → Copy diagnostics) shows how the mic is being recorded too.

Already have Void? Windows and git installs on Linux: Settings → More → Update now. Linux packages from an earlier release (.deb): install this one by hand once with the command above. From now on, Update now does it for you.
New: every Linux install gets every update
- Fedora and Arch Linux now get ready-made packages on every release, alongside the Ubuntu / Debian
.deb. - Update now works for Linux packages. Void downloads the new
.deb,.rpmor Arch package from the release and installs it (your system asks for your password), then restarts. Before, package installs were told to "use your package manager", but there was nothing there to update from. - Every release is now installed and started for real on clean Ubuntu, Fedora and Arch machines before it's published. Each test checks the version and that Void knows how to update itself.
Everything since 1.4.3, now in every Linux package
- The top bar (notch): push him into any screen edge. A click opens his menu, and the next click closes it. (1.5.0, 1.5.2)
- Draggable Settings and History panels. (1.5.0)
- Speech on older NVIDIA GPUs stays on the GPU. (1.5.0)
- Settings no longer shows an old "latest version". (1.5.1)
"Windows protected your PC"? Click More info → Run anyway (the installer isn't code-signed yet).
Void 1.5.2: click the notch for his menu
On 1.3.0 or later? Open Settings → More → Update now. Otherwise download below.
| Windows | ⬇ VoidSetup.exe |
| Ubuntu / Debian | ⬇ void-claude_1.5.2_all.deb |
Changed
- In the top bar (notch), a click opens his menu, and the next click closes it. To talk to him there, say "hey Void", hold Space, or pick 🎙 in the menu. As the orb nothing changes: left click talks, right click opens the menu.
- Settings and History still move by dragging their header. In the notch, he goes back to his edge when you close them.

Void 1.5.1: up-to-date update checks
On 1.3.0 or later? Open Settings → More → Update now. Otherwise download below.
| Windows | ⬇ VoidSetup.exe |
| Ubuntu / Debian | ⬇ void-claude_1.5.1_all.deb |
Fixed
- Settings showed an old "latest version" (for example 1.4.1 after 1.5.0 was out) and said you were up to date. Void remembered GitHub's answer for 12 hours. Now he asks again when he starts, every 6 hours, and whenever you open Settings.
Still on an older version and Settings says you're up to date? Click Check now in Settings → More once, then Update now.
New in 1.5.0: the top bar (notch). See the 1.5.0 notes.

Void 1.5.0: the top bar (notch)
On 1.3.0 or later? Open Settings → More → Update now. Otherwise download below.
| Windows | ⬇ VoidSetup.exe |
| Ubuntu / Debian | ⬇ void-claude_1.5.0_all.deb |
| Arch | void-claude-git (AUR) or git pull && ./install.sh |
New: the top bar (notch)
Void can now merge into an edge of your screen as a black notch, like the one on a MacBook, with just his eyes showing.
- Push him into any edge (top, bottom, left or right) and he merges in. Drag him out and the orb pops back under your mouse. Or right-click → top bar (next to hover mode).
- The whole notch glows while you talk (brighter the louder you are) and pulses while he speaks. The "hey Void" flash matches the notch.
- His words and his terminal drop out of the notch itself: it grows to fit them, then tucks back in. Commands look like his words, and you can always read them.
- His menu fans out around the notch. Click him again to close it.
- Clicks go through it: only a small area around his eyes takes the mouse, so you can still click and drag things under it.
- Works on Windows and Linux: layer-shell desktops (Hyprland, sway, KDE Plasma, river, niri…) and X11 or GNOME (through XWayland).
Also new
- Drag Settings or History by the header to move them out of the way. In the top bar, he goes back to his edge when you close them.
- The "+" new-chat spark is gone from the menu. Ctrl+N or saying "new chat" still starts a fresh conversation.
Fixed
- Speech on older NVIDIA GPUs ("whisper on cuda failed (Requested float16 compute type…); using CPU"). GTX 10-series and older cards can't do fast float16, so Void dropped speech-to-text to the CPU, which is slower and uses a smaller model. Void now asks the card what it supports and uses the best option (for example
int8_float32), so speech stays on the GPU. void doctorand the diagnostics show which compute type is in use.void doctoralso gives a tip when it hears nothing.- When his window closes or restarts, the log no longer fills up with "connection aborted" errors.
Tested
Every build now docks the real Void window on all four edges and checks where it landed, on:
- a clean Windows machine;
- Ubuntu with X11;
- a Wayland layer-shell desktop (sway).

Void 1.4.3: mic fix for long device names
On 1.3.0 or later? Open Settings → More → Update now. Otherwise download below.
| Windows | ⬇ VoidSetup.exe |
| Ubuntu / Debian | ⬇ void-claude_1.4.3_all.deb |
Fixed
- "MIC FAILED: Multiple input devices found." Windows lists every mic once per audio driver and cuts long names short (for example
Kopfhörermikrofon (INZONE Buds). Void picked the mic by that shortened name, found several matches and gave up, so the mic never opened. Void now picks exactly one: the same one the Settings list shows. void doctorno longer prints a long wall of warnings from the audio library.
