Beacon v0.4.0
Beacon v0.4.0
Auto-update. Beacon now updates itself from GitHub releases — signed, verified,
and installed in place. Check automatically or manually in Settings → Updates.
This is the first release with it, so update to 0.4.0 manually; after that you won't
download an installer again.
Terminals are real terminals. The shell icon now opens Terminal, Windows Terminal,
or your Linux emulator, already connected over SSH — with your key, port, jump host
and AWS SSM proxy wired up. The in-app console has been removed. If SSH rejects your
key as too permissive, Beacon offers to fix it.
Remember your master password. Optional auto-unlock using your OS keychain
(macOS Keychain, Windows Credential Manager, Linux Secret Service). Off by default;
revocable in Settings → Vault.
A quieter workspace. The host sidebar lists only what's connected or pinned
instead of every saved session. Pin a host to keep it. Quitting disconnects
everything — nothing lingers in the background.
Logs
- Horizontal scrolling for long lines — no more widening the window
- Rebuilt toolbar that never wraps: filter, pause, follow and clear stay put,
everything else moved to a ··· menu - Drag to resize the sidebar and split panes; widths are remembered
- The split-pane button is now always visible on tabs
Looks
- New logo and a monochrome theme, with colour reserved for errors and warnings
- Interactive dot-grid backdrop (Settings → Appearance to turn off)
- Version number in the header, replacing the "preview" badge
Built-in user guide on the new Guide tab, covering setup through troubleshooting.
Also: accessible dialogs with focus handling and keyboard support throughout.
macOS: unsigned, so right-click → Open on first install, or run
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Beacon.app. Updates after that are
unaffected. Windows: SmartScreen warns on first install.

Beacon v0.2.0 — Initial Release
Beacon is a desktop app for SSH into remote servers, managing Docker containers, and streaming logs in real time — all from a secure encrypted vault.
Features
Secure vault
All sessions and credentials are stored in an encrypted local vault (Argon2id + ChaCha20-Poly1305). Nothing leaves your machine unencrypted. Lock and unlock with a master password; change it any time from Settings.
Session management
Create and organise SSH sessions with full support for key auth, password auth, and SSH agent. Group sessions into categories, set per-session colours, and mark sessions as read-only. Jump host (ProxyJump) support built in.
AWS SSM
Connect to EC2 instances through AWS Systems Manager — no open inbound ports needed. Supports named AWS profiles, explicit access keys, and per-session region selection.
Docker & log streaming
Connect to a session and get a live list of containers. Stream logs in real time with a virtualised list that handles high-volume output. Pause, resume, and scrub through archived logs.
Filters, highlights & alerts
Write rules to filter noise, highlight important patterns with colour, and fire desktop notifications when a keyword appears.
Container stats & diff
Live CPU/memory/network stats per container. Visual diff view for log snapshots.
Export & import
Export any selection of sessions to an encrypted .bcnx file. Share it or move it to another machine — import it back with the password. Handles name and ID conflicts gracefully.
Multi-tab workspace
Open multiple containers across multiple sessions in tabs. Split-view support. Tabs survive navigation and reconnect automatically after a dropped connection.
Platforms
macOS (Apple Silicon), macOS (Intel), Windows, Linux
