RedFlagProfits v1.0.0 Release Notes

RedFlagProfits Logo

Important Notice

This release represents a critical transition point for the RedFlagProfits project. We are archiving the current database structure before implementing a major update that will break compatibility with previous versions.

Repository Changes

  • Git History Cleanup: After this release, all historical CSV data files will be purged from the git history
  • Data Consolidation: All historical data now compressed into a single parquet file
  • Reduced Repository Size: New clones will be significantly lighter after this change

Core Features

  • Time-series visualization of wealth concentration among billionaires (≥$1B) and millionaires (≥$1M)
  • Trend analysis showing wealth doubling times for different asset classes
  • Interactive charts with responsive design for both desktop and mobile

Scripts Overview

  • get_data.py: Fetches billionaire data from Forbes API and saves to date-stamped CSV files
  • make_figure.py: Main processing script that creates both SVG and HTML visualizations
  • matplotlib_svg.py: Generates static SVG visualizations with trend lines
  • plotly_html.py: Creates interactive HTML/JavaScript visualizations
  • common_plot_config.py: Shared configuration for consistent styling across formats

How to Access Historical Data After Update

Users who need access to the original data structure should:

  1. Use this tagged release (v1.0.0-full)
  2. Download the release archive instead of cloning the repo
  3. The parquet file in the main branch will contain all consolidated historical data

Next Steps

The upcoming database restructuring will improve performance and add new analysis capabilities while maintaining the core visualization functionality of tracking wealth concentration over time.

This final release of the v1.x architecture preserves the project's original structure before we transition to the improved database format in v2.0.
