Battlefield backgrounds
H3Landscape selects the battlefield background based on three factors:
- terrain type
- map layer (surface / underground)
- visited object
The battlefield background is primarily determined by the magical terrain (just like in the original game), except for naval battles.
H3Landscape always displays naval battles using a boat background (even on magical terrain). There are special versions of boat backgrounds featuring magic clouds.

If the battle takes place underground, the battlefield background is replaced with its underground version.

H3Landscape classifies certain objects on the map as caves. During battles in these objects, an underground version of the background is used.

H3Landscape also offers special versions of town siege backgrounds. Each siege background has an underground version. Some town - magical terrain combinations also have their own dedicated battlefield backgrounds.
