Hifinis 2.0.0
Hifinis 2.0.0 — the big one
New: Composer — write music with no real instruments
- Studio → Composer. Make a whole score on your phone: piano roll, multi-track arrangement,
mixer (volume, pan, mute, solo, reverb) and a metronome. - 49 instruments built into Hifinis — piano, strings, flute, sitar-style plucks, organ,
synths, choir, and Indian and film percussion (tabla, dholak, mridangam, ghatam, manjira,
taiko, timpani, gong, risers). - Played like a real musician: bowed and blown instruments breathe and slide, plus legato,
staccato, accent, tremolo, pizzicato and meend (slides). Dynamics and vibrato lanes too. - Harmonium and Violin you can play on screen: pump the bellows with a swipe (or by tilting
the phone), add a Sa/Pa drone, and bow the violin by dragging across the strings. - Score view: your music as staff notation (sargam too). Export a PDF score, separate
parts for each player, or MusicXML. - Templates to start from: Film score, Indian classical, South Indian, Pop, Lo-fi.
- Export to FLAC / WAV / MP3 or MIDI, or send the mix to Audio Studio.
- Plug in a USB MIDI keyboard and play or record. Supports the sustain pedal, pitch bend,
mod wheel, touch curves, octave shift and MIDI-learn for knobs and buttons.
New: Upscaler
- EQ → Advanced → Upscaler. It finds where a lossy file (MP3/AAC) was cut off and gently
restores the missing highs, with Dynamics and Space controls. Turn it off and the sound is
exactly as it was. - Optional Hi-Res 2× output for USB DACs.
New: Chromecast
- Play to a Chromecast or Google TV speaker from Now Playing or the Outputs sheet.
New: Your devices
- Every DAC, Bluetooth headphone, wired headset and the phone speaker remembers its own
sound: EQ, Processor Rack and DAC settings come back when you connect it. - A details page for each device (supported rates, formats, features), plus Reconnect DAC
and Release DAC (let another app use it). During a phone call, Hifinis now lets go of
the DAC by itself and takes it back afterwards. - Save and share sound files: export a device's sound or your current sound, and import
it on another phone.
Lyrics
- Fixed wrong lyrics for songs with similar names. Lyrics are now matched by title, artist,
album and length. - Wrong lyrics? Pick the right ones from a list or search for them yourself.
- Tap to sync: turn plain lyrics into synced lyrics by tapping along with the song.
Sound and playback fixes
- Fixed: with Bluetooth + Bit-perfect, music could jump to the phone speaker after
coming back from another app. - Fixed: Reverb, loudness, bass and 3D did nothing on the Bit-perfect and USB engines until
you changed a setting. - Much less battery while playing in the background. Hifinis was refreshing the notification
4 times a second. - Softer start and stop on USB DACs (no click).
- Playing to several outputs at once keeps the main output on its own device.
- Fixed: albums with many singers being split into one album per singer.
Looks
- New sliders, pills, artist pages (circle portraits, "Most in your library"), genre tiles,
folder headers, a richer song Info sheet, Audio info with the full signal chain, and a
rebuilt Audio Studio, all with Hifinis' own icons. - New skins: Black & Red and Blood Moon.
- Spectrogram: a cut-off line with a verdict (full band / lossy / upsampled), levels, loudness
and a touch readout. Visualizer: new styles. - Settings regrouped into Sound, Devices, Library & looks, Screens & alerts and System, with a
better search.
Library
- Faster, safer scanning. A stuck file no longer freezes the scan.
- Fixed folders showing "Music/Music".
Hifinis 1.1.4
Hifinis 1.1.4
New: home-screen widget, redesigned
- The widget now uses the same controls as Now Playing: shuffle, previous, the
cyan-violet play button, next and repeat (repeat-one shows a "1"). - It shows more: title, artist · album, the format (e.g. WAV · 16/44.1 kHz · Lossless),
and a progress bar with the time played and the length. - 7 designs to choose from: Settings → Lock screen & widgets → Widget design:
Classic, Light, Glass, Cover (the album art fills the widget), Cover colour (the card
takes the album's colour), Gradient and Minimal. Each one has a preview. - The time played counts every second, and the bar moves smoothly while playing.
- Tap the progress bar to jump to that point in the song, and tap any empty part of the
widget to open Hifinis. - The layout follows the widget's size. Make it bigger or smaller and it adapts, from a
slim 4×1 strip to a large card with a big cover. You can still pick a fixed size in Settings. - Fixed: a new widget could say "Nothing playing" while music was playing.
- Fixed: tapping the album art on the widget now opens Hifinis.
New: volume boost for Bluetooth and the phone speaker
- Settings → Audio outputs → Bluetooth (or Phone speaker) → Volume boost, up to
+12 dB. Quiet songs get louder on speakers, and a limiter stops loud songs from cracking. - It is used only on Bluetooth and the phone speaker, never on headphones or USB DACs.
Sound
- USB Exclusive is now exactly bit-perfect. Hifinis converted samples for the DAC with a
tiny rounding error. Now the DAC receives the song's samples exactly as they are in the file. - Cleaner sample-rate conversion when your DAC can't play a song's own rate (for example a
DAC without 44.1 kHz). Songs at the DAC's own rate are not converted at all.
Fixed: Reverb was too quiet to hear
- Sound → Every output → Reverb: Room, Hall, Large hall and Plate were working but mixed far
too low (about 20–26 dB under the music), so it sounded like nothing happened. They are now
clearly audible, from a subtle Room to a spacious Large hall, without making the music louder.
About the Bluetooth codec screen (removed in 1.1.3)
- 1.1.2 added a screen to see and change the Bluetooth codec (LDAC, aptX…). To do that it had to
use Android functions that are meant only for system apps, plus the "Nearby devices"
permission. Google Play Protect blocked 1.1.2 because of it. - 1.1.3 removed that screen and the permission, and this version keeps it removed, so Play
Protect no longer blocks Hifinis. On many phones Android refused the codec change anyway. - If 1.1.2 was blocked on your phone, install this version over it. Your library and settings
are kept.
Hifinis 1.1.3
Hifinis 1.1.3
Fixes the "Blocked by Play Protect" warning on 1.1.2.
- The Bluetooth codec screen has been removed for now. It used Android functions that are
meant only for system apps, and Google Play Protect blocked the app because of them. On many
phones Android refused those functions anyway. - Hifinis no longer asks for the Nearby devices permission.
- On Bluetooth, the Now Playing pill shows BLUETOOTH · AAUDIO or BLUETOOTH · ANDROID.
It never says bit-perfect on Bluetooth.
Everything else from 1.1.2 is included: real bit-perfect on USB DACs with the AAudio engine
(Android 14+), clean bass boost, the Processor Rack slider fix, and the lyrics improvements.
If 1.1.2 was blocked on your phone, install 1.1.3 over it. Your library and settings are kept.
Hifinis 1.1.2
Hifinis 1.1.2
Sound
- Real bit-perfect on USB DACs with the Bit-perfect (AAudio) engine (Android 14+). Android
used to mix the stream into the DAC at its own 48 kHz, even though Hifinis said the samples were
untouched. Hifinis now asks Android to run the DAC at each song's own rate (44.1, 96 kHz…) and
pass the samples through unchanged. While this is
on, other apps' sounds are muted on the DAC (an Android rule). - Honest status. If Android can't do bit-perfect for a song, the Now Playing pill says
AAUDIO · DAC · ANDROID MIXER and Audio info explains why. It no longer says bit-perfect
when it isn't. - Bass boost no longer cracks. The Bass dial and Loudness had no headroom, so loud songs
distorted. The level is now lowered by the amount of the boost, so the bass stays clean.
Bass boost sounds a little quieter overall, but clean.
Processor Rack
- Settings no longer jump back. Moving one slider used to undo your other changes in the
same processor: a frequency went back to its old value, or Gain's "Inverted" went back to
Normal. Fixed for every processor.
Lyrics
- Word-by-word (enhanced LRC) lyrics no longer show raw
<00:00.114>timing tags. - SRT and TTML lyrics are supported, including
.srtand.ttmlfiles next to the song. - Translation works on mixed-language songs (Hindi with English lines, Tamil with an
English chorus…). Each line is translated from its own language. - Bilingual lyrics (English + another language on every line) are recognised.
- Clearer translation status, and a combined Translate | Language button.
- The selected toolbar buttons stay readable on pale album covers.
- Tidier swipe-up lyrics pane.
Bluetooth
- New: Bluetooth codec screen (Settings → Car & Bluetooth → Bluetooth codec, Android 13+).
Pick the codec your headphones offer (LDAC, aptX, LHDC, AAC…), sample rate, bit depth and LDAC
quality. Hifinis asks for the "Nearby devices" permission for this. Some phones block it. - The Now Playing pill shows your Bluetooth codec, and never says bit-perfect on Bluetooth.
Look
- Folders and artist pages: the colour at the top now fades smoothly from the top of the
screen (no hard edge under the header). - Now Playing: the artist line is no longer cut off when the phone uses a larger font size.

Multi-output: Bluetooth fixes
- No more stuttering on Bluetooth when it plays together with a USB DAC or the phone speaker.
Bluetooth takes audio in big chunks, and the buffer was too small for them. The buffer now
sizes itself to the device and grows on its own if a device still runs short. - Bluetooth stays in sync. The sync delay now includes the real buffer size, so a bigger
buffer no longer leaves Bluetooth behind the other devices. - Buffer size now works for extra outputs. Settings → Audio outputs → (device) → Buffer size
is used when that device plays alongside another one. If one output still skips, raise it; the
sync adjusts by itself. - Audio outputs list: every device that is playing now shows Active, not only the main
one.
Spectrogram
- Save or share the spectrogram as an image. When the analysis finishes, tap Save (goes to
Pictures/Hifinis) or Share. The image has the title, the file details, frequency and time
axes, and the dB colour scale.
Thanks to everyone who tested multi-output and sent reports.

New: play on several devices at once
- Outputs. Tap the status line under the play button (or ⋮ → Outputs) to see every connected
device: USB DAC, Bluetooth, wired headphones, phone speaker. Tick as many as you like. They play
together and stay in sync, and nothing gets disconnected. - Play only here. Move the music to one device with one tap. This works even in Exclusive USB.
- Per device: volume, channel (Stereo / Left / Right / Mono) and a sync control (auto, or
move it earlier or later). - Stereo pair. Put the left channel on one device and the right on another.
- Every device gets the full Hifinis sound (EQ, Enhance, Rack). Only the main device stays
bit-perfect; the extra ones are adjusted very slightly to stay in sync. - The choices last for the current session. When a device connects or disconnects, Hifinis
goes back to the main device only. - Share with other apps. Hifinis keeps playing on its own device while another app plays
elsewhere. The sheet shows where Android is sending other apps and warns you when both end up on
the same device.
Equalizer
- Three tabs: Equalizer, Sound and Advanced. Swipe to switch. Much less scrolling.
- Sound tab has Tone (Pre-amp, Bass boost, 3D surround), Spatial audio, Loudness, Reverb and
Channel balance. Each group says where it works: every output, Bit-perfect & USB only, or
Android only. - New preset cards. The curve fills the whole card, and the selected card lights up.
- Both equalizer screens are more compact.
Fixes
- Bass boost and 3D surround now work. They had no effect on Bit-perfect and USB DAC, and on
the Android output Bass boost only worked while the EQ was on. Reverb and Loudness are fixed the
same way. All four now work on every output. - Synced lyrics: the current line is now centred in the visible part of the screen. It used
to sit low. - USB DAC: 44.1 kHz music on DACs like the FiiO BTR5 should now play at 44.1 kHz. For some
DACs Android doesn't list 44.1k or 48k, so these tracks were sent at 88.2k. If a DAC really
can't play a rate, Hifinis still notices and falls back. - Home: tapping the Home tab from any screen goes straight back to Home.

New
- Equalizer lock. The Equalizer and Parametric EQ now have a Locked / Unlocked switch, and it
is on by default. While it is locked, scrolling the page can no longer move a band by accident.
On the Equalizer, tap a band to open a small editor with ±0.1 / ±0.5 dB steps, a 0 dB reset and
arrows to step to the next band. Unlock to drag the curve and the bands directly, as before. - Filter types in the Parametric EQ. Each filter can be Peak, Low shelf, High shelf, Low pass,
High pass or Notch. They use the same maths as Equalizer APO and AutoEQ, so their profiles sound
the same here. - Parametric EQ pre-amp. One gain for the whole set of filters, with an Auto button that
keeps the loudest point at 0 dB and a warning when the curve could clip. Saved presets keep the
filter types and the pre-amp. - Equalizer shortcut on Now Playing. A new EQ button in the round-button row (between Info and
More) opens the Equalizer, and Back returns to the player. It lights up when the EQ is on. The ⋮
menu has Equalizer too, in place of Repeat (Repeat is already a button on the player). - A-B repeat is easier to find. The menu item that was just "Set A" now reads
"A-B: set A" → "A-B: set B" → "A-B loop on". Tap once where the part should start, again where
it should end, and that part repeats. A third tap clears it.
Fixes
- The live lyric line no longer sits on the seek bar on shorter phones (for example the Redmi
K20 Pro, or any phone using 3-button navigation). It now has equal space above and below it,
with both the line and the waveform seek bar. - Long titles and artist names fade at the edges while they scroll, instead of being cut off.
- USB DAC: the real sample rates are shown. Some DACs (FiiO BTR5, JadeAudio JA11) showed
"Sample rates: —" and "Max rate 0k". The list Android reports for the DAC is shown now. - USB DAC: blocking 44.1k or 48k now shows a warning. Under "Rates this DAC can't actually
play", blocking 44.1k or 48k means nearly all music is converted to another rate, so it is not
bit-perfect and MQA can't unfold. The screen now says so. - USB DAC: a single hiccup at 44.1k or 48k no longer drops that rate for the rest of the
session. Before, one stall could send every CD-quality track out at 88.2k. - MQA explained. Hifinis doesn't decode MQA itself, but an MQA DAC does when the file reaches
it untouched: use Exclusive USB or Bit-perfect, keep the volume at 100%, turn EQ and effects off,
and don't block the track's sample rate. - Advanced → Version shows the real app version. It always said 1.0.0.

Hifinis 1.0.8
Fixes
- Bluetooth is no longer called "Bit-perfect". Bluetooth headphones always re-encode the audio
with their own codec (SBC, AAC, LDAC, aptX), so it can never be bit-perfect. Audio info now
says so, and Signal Lab shows "Bluetooth — not bit-perfect". - Audio outputs shows the engine that is really playing. The Bluetooth page used to say
"Android output" while the AAudio engine was running. The output marked "Active" is now the one
really playing, and Bluetooth lists AAudio as an option. - The Home "Audio engine" chip shows your real output. It used to show only the DAC's name or
"Phone speaker / wired", even over Bluetooth. Now it shows Bluetooth, Wired / AUX, Phone speaker
or the DAC's name. - Audio info no longer says "USB Exclusive" when no DAC is connected. Exclusive USB stays
chosen so it comes back when you plug the DAC in. Until then, music plays through the normal
Android output, and Audio info now says so ("Exclusive USB is waiting for a DAC"). It also no
longer calls that path bit-perfect. - The live lyric line no longer overlaps the artist name when the waveform seek bar is on.
The waveform is now the same height as the line seek bar, so the lyric line has the same room
with either style.

a tall script such as Telugu. The waveform seek bar is a little shorter to make room, and the
lyric line keeps a fixed height, so nothing moves between lines or songs.

Fixes
- Audio info now shows the output that is really playing. The "Route" line used to show the
output you had last picked, not the one in use. If Bluetooth had ever been picked, it could say
"Bluetooth" while music was playing through a USB DAC in Exclusive mode. Now it follows the real
output: the USB DAC (with its name) in Exclusive mode, and otherwise whatever device Android is
using. If your preferred output isn't connected, it says so. - The same fix applies to the output chip on the Settings page, Audio → Audio outputs, and
Bit perfect → Current output. Audio outputs no longer shows two outputs as "Active" at once.
Thanks to David for the detailed report and screenshots.
