Airplayify Jam 0.1.0-alpha.2
Pre-releaseAirplayify Jam 0.1.0-alpha.2
An early, open-source macOS menu-bar app for Spotify audio output groups.
This is an experimental alpha, with real-device audio testing still pending. It is for testers who can diagnose and report failures. It is not a Mac App Store build.
Fixed in alpha.2
Receiver connection or streaming failures after the audio source ends now stop with an error instead of hanging in reconnect. Mock receiver tests cover both failure cases, normal completion, and cancellation cleanup. Real-receiver testing remains pending.
Requirements
- Apple Silicon Mac. The packaged build targets macOS 14 or later; only the build host has been checked.
- Spotify desktop app for the default capture workflow.
- Homebrew, FFmpeg, and a Python/pyatv runtime. The included installer explains and installs these dependencies.
- Screen & System Audio Recording approval for capture. Accessibility is optional for global volume keys. BlackHole is an optional fallback and is skipped by default.
The binary is ad-hoc signed and not notarized. macOS Gatekeeper may block it. A verified signature/checksum is not Apple notarization or an assurance that playback works.
Testing limits
Automated source, lifecycle, installer-policy, sender and packaging checks are separate from audible verification. The following remain unverified on the target setup:
- Audible playback and synchronization across receivers.
- Volume changes during playback.
- Recovery from receiver disconnection.
- Clean stop and restoration of the previous output.
- Permission persistence across repeated launches.
Use only receivers on a trusted local network. Spotify Connect account lanes are optional and do not promise synchronized playback.
Install and report problems
Extract the release archive and keep the app beside the included installer. Read Start Here.md before running it. The installer preserves an existing user app as a timestamped backup.
When filing a GitHub issue, include macOS version, app build number, receiver model, the action you took, and the observed result. Remove tokens, account details, and private device/network information from logs.
To roll back, quit the alpha and restore the app backup created by the installer. Check the selected output in macOS Sound settings before resuming playback.
Build verification: native process launch passed after restoring the menu-bar item on launch. Visual interaction checks remain pending because the automation bridge failed. Support: hello@patchworkmd.dev; https://patchworkmd.dev.
