#5L project developed by POLARI
5L is a physical installation that makes visible the link between artificial intelligence used for image generation and its impact on water resources.
The installation is based on a proprietary calculation method that estimates the water consumption of generative AI in the creation of multimedia content. Every day, every moment, a new video is generated and uploaded to a social network. Using the Civit AI API, we capture the generated video and its metadata to display it alongside the estimated consumption.
5L is an installation developed during the artistic and technical residency at Hibridalab, responding to the context of accelerated technological growth and increasingly evident planetary limits, in which the cloud, far from dissipating in the air, condenses water, energy, and territory; how can we make perceptible the material impacts of technologies presented as invisible, ethereal, and clean?
