Personal Context Format (PCF)

A file format for what a person has put into words about themselves — what matters to them, and how it has changed.

Read the specification →

Scope

PCF carries what a person chose to write down: threads (anything they hold, each with a lifecycle and the history of how it changed), the areas of life they file things in, the markers that date a turning point, and the entries they log day to day.

A thread can be pinned, active, background, or closed. closed means no longer current — not deleted, and not necessarily false.

Out of scope: wearable and health-platform data, messages, calendar, and anything auto-extracted that the person did not endorse.

Status

Draft, schema_version 1.0. One implementation. Breaking changes bump MAJOR; see CHANGELOG.md.

Reference implementation

Pentima produces PCF. The format does not require it.

Feedback

Open an issue — corrections, questions about a field's meaning, or notes from implementing a producer or reader.
