@PescheHelfer PescheHelfer released this 16 Sep 19:57

Learn Anywhere is a cross-platform drilling program for anything you can write down as a set of connected facts — vocabulary, formulas, dates, chemical symbols, legal paragraphs, anatomy terms. It's a modern rebuild of the DOS-era German program Lern PC plus (© 1990/92 Ulrich Veigel Softwareservice).

This is the first release since 0.6.0 and gathers eight desktop versions' worth of work. The desktop app is at 0.11.0. The Android companion — only a plan back then — ships here for the first time, at its own version 0.6.0: the two products version independently.

Highlights since 0.6.0

  • An Android companion. Import your decks onto a phone and keep practising them away from the computer: think-only, two taps per card, with its own statistics. Read-only by design, so nothing is edited or synced back.
  • Reads your cards aloud. A mask says what language each field holds; in a session a speaker icon beside the field reads it out through the voices the operating system already has, with automatic speech at reveal, F4 to replay, and voice and speed set in Options. Local and offline. Windows and Android; Linux ships mute.
  • An all-time record per deck. Lifetime statistics kept alongside the current sitting and viewable next to it, with its own clear — clearing the current statistics leaves the lifetime record intact.
  • Colour that follows the theme. Text colour and highlight in fields now draw from the active theme, so a deck stays readable in all five; the Correction view hides a field's own formatting where it has a mistake.
  • Finds your decks. Up to three recently opened decks one click from the welcome screen, a start folder so every file dialog opens where your decks live, zoom from 75 % to 200 %, and optional content centring on a wide screen.
  • Sharper practice and grading. Live session readouts now cover the whole deck and each direction, Level learning grades the letters actually shown, new installs grade strictly on case and accents, and Arrow Up/Down move between fields.
  • Statistics survive outside edits. Per-unit statistics follow their units when a deck is edited outside the app, and any that had to be reset are reported instead of quietly vanishing.

Behind those sits a long tail of fixes — Mask Sync contrast, write counts and dialog behaviour, options that now stay saved, an empty lexicon search that lists the whole category. The complete list is in the app under Help ▸ About ▸ Version history.

Downloads

  • Windows — Learn_Anywhere-0.11.0-x86_64.zip. Unzip it anywhere, keep its files together, and run LearnAnywhere.exe. No installer; the program writes only inside your own user profile.
  • Linux — Learn_Anywhere-0.11.0-x86_64.AppImage. chmod +x it, then run it.
  • Android — Learn_Anywhere-0.6.0-arm64-v8a.apk is the right build for essentially every phone sold in the last decade. The companion is sideloaded, not on the Play Store: open the file with your file manager and allow the installation when Android asks. Take armeabi-v7a only for an older 32-bit phone, or x86_64 only for an emulator.

Note the two version numbers: the desktop app is 0.11.0 and the Android companion is 0.6.0. They are separate products on separate tracks, and the number each shows under Help ▸ About is its own.

Learn Anywhere is a cross-platform drilling program for anything you can write down as a set of connected facts — vocabulary, formulas, dates, chemical symbols, legal paragraphs, anatomy terms. It's a modern rebuild of the DOS-era German program Lern PC plus (© 1990/92 Ulrich Veigel Softwareservice), built for Windows and Linux, with an Android companion planned.

This is the first public release.

Highlights

  • Four practice modes — Level learning (a scaffolded ladder from full solution to free recall), Drill mode, Endless mode, and Once through.
  • Bidirectional masks — design your own card shape once, query it in either direction.
  • Answer evaluation you control — case/accent sensitivity, an optional Almost verdict for near misses, and the ability to overrule any verdict yourself.
  • Statistics that mean something — per-unit accuracy across seven buckets, with a "keep practicing" list you can save as a new deck of exactly what you're missing.
  • A lexicon to search across a whole folder of decks on disk. - A full in-app user guide, in English and German, under Help ▸ User guide (F1).
  • No database, no account, no network — three plain JSON file types you own.

See the README for the full feature list, file formats, and how to build from source.
