What's New in 1.8.0

1.8.0 brings Contextify to Windows on x64 and ARM64, extends the Linux CLI, and sharpens Total Recall search for agents.

New everywhere

  • Sharper Total Recall search: contextify search takes several --query values in one call and merges the results, drops duplicate hits from copies of the same repo, and returns longer snippets with a clear marker when one is cut and a pointer to the source transcript. --any, --all, and --query-file let an agent ask precise questions without fighting shell quoting.
  • Installed skills keep your edits across upgrades: skills are tracked by content hash, so an upgrade replaces only files you have not changed and uninstall removes only files it installed.

Contextify for Windows

  • Contextify for Windows (x64 and ARM64): a notification-area (system tray) app plus the contextify command-line tool for Windows 11, on both x64 (the 64-bit x86 architecture nearly every Windows developer runs, Intel and AMD) and ARM64. It runs the same shared Swift engine as the Mac and Linux builds, indexing your local Claude Code and Codex sessions in the background and syncing them to Contextify Cloud. Browsing your history stays a Mac app feature in this release.
  • Signed per-user installer: Authenticode-signed with a trusted timestamp (publisher Robert Banagale), installs without elevation, and owns update, repair, and uninstall.
  • Windows CLI: search, status, context, and projects read the local database directly and work whether or not the app is running; ingest hands the request to the app's engine and launches it when needed. verify checks database compatibility and doctor reports Claude Code, Codex, and engine health.
  • Windows app configuration: the same settings as the Mac app, all from the tray. Sign in to Contextify Cloud with the device flow and control sync (Sync Now, automatic sync); activate a Local Commercial license by pasting the emailed token (verified offline, like macOS); manage usage-data consent (asked once on first run, off until you turn it on) and start-at-login (opt-in); and install the Claude Code plugin and Codex skill companions (matching the DMG, preserving your edits across updates).

Linux

  • Linux CLI parity: transcripts, stats, tag, version, the feedback family, and install-plugin/uninstall-plugin are now available on Linux with the same output shapes as macOS.

Changed

  • New flat logomark and app icon across macOS and Windows.

Fixed

  • Nested Claude subagent transcripts (usually just a handful per session) are now discovered and indexed automatically on the next ingest, instead of being skipped.
  • Codex session transcripts that a previous ingest skipped are re-detected and indexed on their own, with no manual re-ingest.
  • When an already-indexed entry is later re-parsed and its extracted text changes, re-ingesting updates the stored entry in place instead of keeping the stale copy, so search no longer matches text the entry no longer contains.
  • New or unrecognized transcript record types are retained and counted during ingest instead of being silently dropped, so a provider adding a new record type no longer loses data.
  • While a CLI is still writing a transcript, Contextify no longer reads a half-written final line; it waits for the line to finish, so continued indexing of an in-progress session picks up exactly where the tool left off.
  • A fresh install no longer looks stuck on "Finding conversations, 0 of N": startup and indexing now report the real phase with determinate counts on macOS and Windows, and each phase is exposed to accessibility tools.
  • The current-session down-rank holds across repeated queries.
  • push and sync name the reason when nothing was uploaded instead of reporting a green "Sync complete".
  • Cloud sync recognizes the same repository as one project across machines, even when its path differs.
  • Sync Now now works even when automatic sync is turned off (previously, turning automatic sync off also disabled the manual Sync Now button).
  • Re-running Cloud setup with the same account keeps your existing sync position instead of restarting the sync from scratch.
  • Database migrations are serialized across the app and the CLI so they cannot race each other.
  • An older CLI opening a newer database explains the schema mismatch instead of failing mid-inspection.
  • Privacy settings disclose engagement telemetry alongside the existing usage-data disclosure.
  • status reports global liveness and per-scope lag separately, so a single lagging project no longer marks a healthy install stale.
