Release list
Meowcal Sub 2 v0.2.2
Meowcal Sub 2 v0.2.2
Title, season, episode and subtitle results now support normal keyboard focus and Enter/Space activation. Expanded, selected and unavailable states are exposed to assistive technology. Arrow navigation keeps the actual result focused across Source and Target tabs, and filter buttons no longer move the result cursor. Loading episodes remain focusable but cannot be activated.
Use the installer matching Windows ARM64 or x64. Installed v0.2.1 copies can detect the signed update; older public releases and portable copies require a manual update. Python and Meowcal Core are included; translation models download separately. Existing updater signing identity is retained; Windows Authenticode is not configured.
Validation: full Windows x64 and ARM64 source verification and packaged startup smoke tests passed. Browser tests cover keyboard activation, cross-tab focus and unavailable results. Release assets are independently checked against the reviewed source, version, architecture, hashes and unchanged updater public key; modified payloads and mismatched signatures are rejected.
The earlier v0.2.1 installer acceptance covered cancellation, native Studio/Settings, direct signed-receiver upgrade, automatic restart and retained data on both architectures. A production application-driven v0.2.1-to-v0.2.2 update on the local installation has not yet been exercised; manual installer and mocked UI tests do not establish that result.
Changes and verification: keyboard improvements #137, installer acceptance #136, signed build.
Meowcal Sub 2 v0.2.1
Meowcal Sub 2 v0.2.1
This release enables signed application updates and includes the merged sustained-pause fixes. Existing published v0.1.0 and v0.2.0 installations require a manual first upgrade; portable copies continue to update manually.
Use the installer matching Windows ARM64 or x64. Python and Meowcal Core are included; translation models download separately. Detached updater signatures authenticate the installers; Windows Authenticode signing is not configured.
Both architecture packages passed tagged CI verification and package smoke tests. The exact signed installers, checksums, update manifest, source version and payload architectures were independently verified. Standard GitHub-hosted x64 and ARM64 native acceptance passed cancellation, installation, Studio/Settings, in-place upgrade from the signed test receiver, automatic restart, configuration/cache retention and clean uninstall. This installer acceptance does not establish a complete production in-app upgrade; that remains a separate follow-up verification.
Meowcal Sub 2 v0.2.0
Meowcal Sub 2 v0.2.0 is a Windows release for ARM64 and x64.
Install or upgrade
- Windows on ARM: download meowcal-sub-2-v0.2.0-windows-arm64-setup.exe.
- Intel/AMD Windows: download meowcal-sub-2-v0.2.0-windows-x64-setup.exe.
- Portable packages are also provided. Extract the complete archive before opening Meowcal Sub 2.exe.
Close the old app before installing. Keep application data when prompted if you
want to retain settings. v0.1.0 requires this manual first upgrade. This release
also uses manual updates: updater signing is not configured, so automatic updates
are disabled. No latest.json or updater signature is supplied. Tauri updater
signatures and Windows Authenticode signing are separate; this release makes no
Windows certificate-signing claim.
Changes since v0.1.0
- Edit prepared SRT/WebVTT subtitles and use corrected copies during sync.
- Retain target-file timing, overlaps and silent intervals, normalize malformed
cue ordering, and keep subtitle search tied to the selected episode and version. - Keep the live strip and Stop controls reachable above topmost players; clean up
app-owned backend and model processes on close or a crash. - Bound subtitle timing using observed playback evidence and return to live OCR
translation when a valid file clock is lost. - Improve small-window and keyboard navigation, startup and target-track preparation.
- Ship Meowcal Core 0.1.4, per-app model storage and updated locked dependencies.
Validation and limits
Both architectures run full Windows verification, package validation and packaged
backend smoke checks in the tagged build. The reviewed playback/lifecycle
implementation has physical Windows ARM64 acceptance for installation/close/uninstall,
real Core OCR/native overlay, pause/occlusion handling,
owned-process cleanup, a one-hour authored playback run and a 370-second licensed
film sample. x64 installation and Core OCR were also exercised under Windows ARM
emulation; physical Intel/AMD hardware is unverified.
Those native runs used packages before this version bump. The v0.2.0 binaries
receive tagged CI and asset checks; a fresh desktop rerun is not claimed.
The supported acceptance scope is one primary screen. General dual-screen or
mixed-DPI behavior is not certified. OCR synchronization can hold the previous
line across short media-time gaps; a fresh match shows the current cue rather than
replaying expired silence. The licensed sample covered all 23 target identities
and its long silence; it does not certify every short native blank. Cross-release
alignment without corroborating anchors remains unverified, and silent static
playback/pause can leave target-only timing ambiguous. Details remain in
#65,
#70 and
#42.
A prior GPU warm-up failure was not reproduced by the bounded repeat; its cause
remains unclassified. The film run's CPU-ready result does not resolve that observation.
SHA-256 checksums accompany each architecture's assets.
Release preparation: #132.
Playback and lifecycle changes: #130.
Meowcal Sub 2 v0.1.0
The first release of Meowcal Sub 2, a Windows desktop subtitle studio.
- Search OpenSubtitles, SubDL, and ASSRT from one place.
- Match visible subtitles with Windows OCR and follow playback against subtitle files.
- Show target-language cues in an always-on-top strip, with local translation for missing answers.
- Prepare translations, select the capture area, and adjust timing while watching.
- New dark cat-and-subtitle icon and AGPL-3.0-only licensing.
Downloads
Choose arm64 for Windows on ARM, or x64 for Intel/AMD Windows. The installer provides a per-user installation. For the portable package, extract the complete archive and open Meowcal Sub 2.exe; keep its resource folders together.
Python and Meowcal Core are included. Microsoft WebView2 and the relevant Windows OCR language pack are required. Configure at least one subtitle provider in Settings. Local translation models are downloaded separately (about 1.1 GB plus the runtime).
The Windows binaries are unsigned. Verify downloads against SHA256SUMS.txt with PowerShell's Get-FileHash -Algorithm SHA256.
Before watching
Read the user guide for setup, capture selection, and troubleshooting. OCR and local inference run on the machine; subtitle providers, optional metadata/fonts, and model installation use the network.
This is an early release. Matching depends on the visible subtitles, language, selected files, and video cut. Protected video surfaces may prevent capture. Translation speed depends on hardware. Keep the subtitle strip outside the capture region.
Source code is licensed under AGPL-3.0-only. Bundled components retain their own licenses, included with the packages.
