Builds a custom Rock Band 2 Deluxe disc for the PlayStation 2 from folders of

Clone Hero songs. Pick your songs and it converts the audio, charts, album art

and background video into the formats the console expects, packs them into the

game's archive and writes a bootable ISO. Everything it produces has been tested

on real hardware.

Getting started

  1. Download RB2DX-Disc-Builder-win64.zip below, unzip it anywhere and run

RB2DX Disc Builder.exe. The first start takes about twenty seconds while it

unpacks itself, with nothing on screen until the window appears.

  2. On the Setup page, point it at your own unpacked copy of Rock Band 2

Deluxe (Customs Edition) for PS2, then press Download what's missing to fetch the tools.

  3. Supply your own ps2str.exe from Sony's PS2 SDK - it cannot be distributed

with the tool - and point at it with Locate.

  4. Add your song folders on the Songs page, tick what you want, and build.

Nothing needs to be installed, not even Python. The README covers the rest,

including what a song costs in disc space and what to do when one is left off.

What's included

Eleven background video clips, randomized behind and picked per song for chart folders that do not have their own videos in their respective folders. Drop your own videos into the venues folder to use those instead randomized.

Fitting more songs

The video behind each song is about two thirds of what that song costs on disc.

Set Background to Black on the Setup page and there is none: the same songs

that weigh 2.54 GB behind venue clips come to 0.99 GB, so roughly two and a half

times as many fit. No video files are needed in that mode, and the note track,

crowd and scoring look exactly as they always did - the game draws those itself.

Playing in an emulator

PCSX2 will not boot the ISO this tool writes, though a real PS2 will. To play on PCSX2, Tick Also save the disc's files in a folder, under Save the ISO as on the Setup page, and build the image from that folder with ImgBurn instead: Build mode, file system ISO9660 + UDF, UDF revision 1.02.

What is not included

No game files of any kind. You need your own copy of Rock Band 2 Deluxe Customs Edition for PS2,

your own songs, and your own ps2str.exe.
