Pensieve-0.5.1-ios-unsigned.ipa is an unsigned arm64 device build for iOS / iPadOS 15+. Use Sideloadly or AltStore on a computer to sign it with your own Apple ID and install it — Safari cannot install the IPA directly. Free Apple ID signing normally needs refreshing every seven days. This is not an App Store or TestFlight release. See the installation instructions / 中文安装步骤.

- Email on your phone, even without the computer. Set an account up on the phone too (Settings → Email → Use on this phone too, or add it there while the computer is away): its password stays on the phone, encrypted with the phone's own secure key store (Android Keystore / iOS Keychain). When the computer can't be reached, the phone checks your mail itself (nothing is marked read), analyses it with the phone's own AI, sends replies and new mail (a copy goes to your Sent folder, the answered mail is flagged as answered), marks mail read or unread, and opens bodies and attachments. With the computer back, it takes over again.
- Everything you do on the phone shows up on the computer — and the other way round. Replied, read, done, Not important: they sync both ways, and a mail the phone fetched is never doubled when the computer fetches it too (the computer just keeps its own copy of the files). New: a Not important button on every mail takes it out of Needs attention and To reply, and is remembered for the sender.
- Timetable photos on the phone. A photo of your timetable is read on the phone too when the computer is away — with the computer's vision model copied to the phone, or your SiliconFlow (硅基流动) key on the phone (Qwen3-VL), or an OpenAI / Zhipu / Bailian key.
- Balance on the phone. Settings → Usage & balance on the phone shows the computer's estimate while it is away (less what the phone has spent since — speech-to-text included), and you can enter a balance on the phone (for SiliconFlow and others without a balance API); it is handed to the computer when the phone next reaches it.

- Update checks work behind a VPN or campus network (GitHub's hourly limit no longer matters); Android updates never cost the phone's data (one signing key, mismatched files refused); the paper-library options in Settings show their text again.

- Update checks work behind a VPN or campus network. GitHub answers only 60 update checks an hour per internet address; behind a shared VPN or a university network others use that up, and Pensieve said Could not check: GitHub: HTTP 403. Now, when GitHub refuses, Pensieve reads the release from its website instead, and failing that from github.com itself — downloads are still checked against the release's checksums. Tested with a real update: Pensieve 0.4.9, installed on Windows, found this version, downloaded and checked it, installed it over itself, and opened again as 0.5.0 with all its notes.
- Updates never cost your phone's data. Every Pensieve APK is signed with the same key — Android installs an update only over an app with the same signature, and otherwise offers only to uninstall first, which would erase the phone's notes. Pensieve now checks the signature of a downloaded update before handing it to Android: one signed differently is refused and deleted, never installed, and Pensieve says why. Tested on Android 14: 0.4.9 → 0.5.0 through Pensieve's own Install (Android's "Update this app?" dialog) keeps everything; a differently signed APK is refused. If Android ever tells you the signature is different, don't uninstall — download the APK from this page (builds from elsewhere, such as test builds, are signed differently).
- Settings → Papers & code: the two paper-library options (translated abstracts, translate a selection right away) show their text again — they appeared as two bare tick boxes.
- Updating from 0.4.9: if the 0.4.9 on your computer keeps saying HTTP 403, check again later (GitHub's limit resets within the hour) or install this version by hand once; from 0.5.0 on, the check no longer depends on that limit.

- Import your timetable in one go. Calendar → Timetable: a photo or screenshot, the file your school's system exports (PDF, Excel, Word, .ics) or its text. The AI reads it (photos with a vision model such as Qwen3-VL on SiliconFlow, then DeepSeek works out the courses) and you check everything before it is written. A timetable that only says period 1, period 2… gets the times of your school's periods — a preset you check, or your own — never a guess. Each class shows its exact time, classroom and exam; each exam is also a to-do whose deadline is the exam, counting down on Today. Courses get their own colours, kept clearly apart from your projects' colours (and drawn striped); change a course's colour from any of its classes.
- Paper reader: a highlight now covers exactly the text you selected — no more blank space at the ends of lines. ⌘Z / Ctrl+Z undoes a highlight (added, deleted, recoloured or commented) and ⇧⌘Z redoes it; a highlight's colour can be changed afterwards.
- Main line: tasks carried over from yesterday can be picked as the day's main line again.
- Pensieve now updates itself. It looks for a new version when it starts and every few hours, downloads it in the background (checked against the release's checksums) and asks: Restart to update. On Android the new app is downloaded and handed to Android's installer; on iPhone the download page opens. Settings → General → Updates: check now; download then ask, ask first, or don't check; skip a version. (From this version on — 0.4.8 and earlier need this one installed by hand.)
- Idea library by project. Ideas are grouped by project, with the ones not in a project yet last; inside a project: This project · Other projects · No project · All. AI suggests the project a loose idea belongs to — Move or dismiss.
- Connections that say something. Each link between two ideas now says how they relate and what new thinking follows — a question, a combination, an experiment — and looks across projects on purpose. Connections between ideas reads the whole library (across projects, within one, or both); any insight can be kept as a new idea.
- Bring your reference library over. Papers → Add → Zotero, EndNote, Mendeley…: Zotero on this computer is read directly (Zotero can stay open) — collections become folders, tags, notes and abstracts come along, and its PDFs are linked where they are. Zotero online with an API key works on any device. Or a file from any reference manager: BibTeX, RIS, EndNote XML / .enw, CSL JSON, Zotero RDF, PubMed, Web of Science. Papers already in the library are recognised, not doubled.
- Notion and Obsidian. From Notion: H4 headings stay H4, links to a heading jump there, the table of contents comes along, and images, videos, PDFs, Excel and every other attachment are kept and shown in the page. New: Import Obsidian / Notion export — a vault folder or a Notion export .zip, with folders as pages,
[[wikilinks]]and links to headings that jump, embedded pictures and files, callouts and tags. Importing again updates instead of copying. - Formulas look right. Superscripts and subscripts are the right size again (like Notion and Overleaf). Settings → General → Formulas: the size next to the text, and words in sub/superscripts in the text font (
L_{total}drawn likeL_{\text{total}}). The LaTeX you wrote — or imported, or pasted — is kept exactly as written. - Headings: H4 in the
/menu, a Table of contents block, and links to a heading from the link dialog. - Phone bottom bar, your way. Settings → Appearance → Bottom bar (or More → Choose the tabs in this bar…): up to four tabs in your order — Email instead of Tasks, say.

- Choose your own voice hotkey. Settings → Voice & memory → Voice hotkey shows the key in use. Click Change… and press the combination you want.
- Keys the system already uses (Spotlight, switching input method, the window menu…) get a warning. Ctrl/⌘ + a letter, and keys without Ctrl, ⌘ or ⌥, are refused. A key another app already holds is refused too, and your old key keeps working.
- After every change, Pensieve asks you to press the new key once. If it never arrives (the system or another app took it), it tells you.
- New default on a Mac: ⌥Space (⌘⇧Space was often taken by input methods and other apps). Windows and Linux keep Ctrl+Shift+Space. If another app holds the default, Pensieve uses the next one and Settings says which.
- Dictation into text boxes inside a page goes into that box. Before, words spoken into an AI conversation's prompt or goal, an idea's takeaway, a caption or a LaTeX source were written above the block as plain text. With the cursor in an AI answer, they now go just below that conversation.
- A page's ↑ / ↓ buttons no longer sit under the mic button.

The device and simulator builds are checked by GitHub Actions; testing on a physical iPhone is still to come. The simulator ZIP (Pensieve-0.4.7-ios-simulator.zip) is for Xcode developers only and cannot be installed on an iPhone.

- 🔎 Never miss new work — AI searches arXiv and OpenAlex, rates each paper against your project, and a daily push brings the newest ones (dated, never twice).
- 🗓 Plan around what is fixed — calendar, main line of the day, deadlines, and reminders that reach your phone.
- 📬 Email that tells you what it needs, 📝 pages with AI conversations, one-click Notion import, 💻 Codex, Git and terminals on the desktop.

- Dictation goes where your cursor is, with no questions. With the cursor in a text box, a to-do's notes or a page, the mic and Ctrl+Shift+Space only write what you say there, tidied by AI. You won't be asked whether it's an idea or a to-do. A small pill with a live waveform, ✕ and ✓ is all you see. Press the keys again (or ✓) to finish, and Esc (or ✕) to cancel, even while it's being transcribed. On a phone, tap ✓ or ✕.
- Before, the desktop hotkey always opened the Idea / To-do sheet.
- Ideas, to-dos and calendar entries are sorted out only when nothing has the cursor on Today, Calendar, Tasks, Ideas or a project.
- The mic button is on every screen, including a page, the page list, papers and settings. On a page with no cursor, what you say goes at the end.
- Smoother on Windows.
- The clipboard history, "Paste this?" and the copy suggestions inside text fields are gone. They read the clipboard twice a second and floated over pages. A saved history is deleted on first start.
- Long to-do lists no longer recompute every row on every change.
- Your own edits are no longer saved twice when the server confirms them.
- Screens share one read of each list.
- The desktop pet redraws and moves half as often.
- Copying from pages works. Select words in an AI conversation's answer (organized, original or translated) and Ctrl+C copies just those words. Before, it copied the whole block.
- Edit an idea where it sits. An idea in a page now has an editable title and grey takeaway, saved to the Idea Library.
- From 0.4.6: Jianguoyun (坚果云) WebDAV sync between computers and phones.

Install it first on the computer you keep running — it is the hub your phone syncs with. Then add an AI model key (Settings → AI models) and pair your phone (Settings → Sync → Pair a phone). Tour and guide: photonghost308.github.io/pensieve-app
First start: Windows SmartScreen → More info → Run anyway. macOS → System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway (not notarized yet). Linux → chmod +x the AppImage, or sudo apt install ./Pensieve-0.4.5-linux-amd64.deb.
iPhone and iPad
Pensieve-0.4.5-ios-unsigned.ipa is an unsigned arm64 device build for iOS / iPadOS 15+. Use Sideloadly or AltStore on a computer to sign it with your own Apple ID and install it — Safari cannot install the IPA directly. Free Apple ID signing normally needs refreshing every seven days. This is not an App Store or TestFlight release. See the installation instructions / 中文安装步骤.
