Fourth feature update alpha for OpenJar Launcher — focused on launch speed, Friend Link reliability, stronger sync safety, and UI polish.

What’s new in v0.1.4

Power navigation + settings UX

  • Added global Command Palette (⌘K / Ctrl+K) for fast route jumps, actions, and settings targeting.
  • Added Settings Search with jump-to-section behavior.
  • Added persisted Basic / Advanced settings mode (default: Basic) across global + instance settings.

Home customization

  • Added Customize Home mode with:
  • Hide/show widgets
  • Pin/unpin widgets
  • Reorder across columns
  • Reset to defaults
  • Improved placement/flow for Home customization controls.

Creator Studio + content workflows

  • Added local JAR import queue with per-file status, dedupe hints, and retry-failed-only.
  • Improved import speed with backend worker batching.
  • Added clearer Creator update workflows and queue feedback.

Instance content management improvements

  • Added persisted filters per instance/content type (search, state, source, missing).
  • Improved sticky selection behavior across filtering/view changes.
  • Polished bulk apply bar behavior for selected mods.
  • Added ability to delete mods from instance (not only disable).

Launch flow and reliability

  • Reduced layout shift in launch controls (no awkward “Launch” -> “Launching” button jitter).
  • Improved first-launch prep/install performance and reduced blocking UI moments.
  • Improved parallel launch behavior so one instance launching does not unnecessarily block another.
  • Improved launch compatibility UX:
  • Cleaner modal layout
  • Better blocker/warning quality
  • Added Launch anyway (ignore exact same blocker/warning set for 24h per instance)

Snapshot + update UX

  • Improved snapshot naming to be more human-readable.
  • Improved “Update all” behavior for faster mod update throughput.
  • Added mod update flow improvements for modpack creator workflows.

Overlay/modals/UI consistency

  • Fixed modal alignment/centering issues across menus.
  • Fixed overlay/vignette behavior and visual consistency.
  • Reduced top-bar clutter while launching/running.
  • Improved action icon/button placement to prevent overlap with long mod names.

Friend Link (major polish)

Friend Link now feels much more predictable and explainable in daily use.

  • Added background drift checks (metadata-only polling).
  • Added sync prompts with actions: Review changes, Sync now, Snooze 30m.
  • Added clearer unsynced indicators in Links chip + activity.
  • Added selective sync flow for applying only chosen drift items.
  • Added sync policy modes:
  • Manual
  • Ask every time (default)
  • Auto-sync metadata only
  • Auto-sync everything
  • Added trust/safety guardrails:
  • Per-peer trust
  • Max auto-change threshold
  • Untrusted peer changes are clearly surfaced
  • Increased peer cap from 4 -> 8.
  • Added per-peer local nickname support so you can identify peers easily.
  • Added per-content-type sync toggles (mods/resourcepacks/shaderpacks/datapacks), with resourcepacks default off.
  • Improved missing-file recovery behavior after sync attempts.
  • Improved sync status consistency and conflict handling.

Stability + responsiveness

  • Moved heavy backend operations off UI-sensitive paths to reduce temporary app unresponsiveness.
  • Improved behavior around Microsoft account/login related long operations.

Important fixes

  • Fixed cases where sync appeared complete but files were still missing.
  • Fixed trust behavior so untrusted peers are properly blocked from sync-sensitive flows.
  • Fixed multiple Friend Link status/drift consistency issues.
  • Fixed multiple modal/layout regressions introduced during rapid feature iteration.

Windows & Linux status

OpenJar Launcher remains macOS-first, but multi-platform support continues to improve.

Build coverage:

  • macOS Intel
  • macOS Apple Silicon
  • Linux x64
  • Windows x64
  • Windows ARM64

Windows/Linux still have less real-world validation than macOS.
If you hit platform-specific issues, open a GitHub issue with:

  • OS + version + CPU architecture
  • repro steps
  • expected vs actual behavior
  • logs/errors (with secrets redacted)

Notes

  • This is still a beta release.
  • Updater behavior now depends on valid signed metadata for each release.
  • Keep snapshots/backups before major modpack changes.

Known issues

  • Windows installer signing is not configured yet (may show Unknown publisher).
  • macOS builds are not notarized yet (manual first-run allow may be required).
  • Linux runtime may require distro-specific WebKitGTK/libsoup packages.

macOS first-run security steps

  1. Download the macOS installer zip.
  2. Unzip it.
  3. Move OpenJar Launcher.app to Applications.
  4. Right-click app → Open.
  5. Confirm Open in the dialog.

If blocked:

  1. Open once so macOS shows warning.
  2. Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security.
  3. Find OpenJar Launcher warning.
  4. Click Open Anyway and confirm.

Tip: run from Applications, not Downloads.
