Privacy and Safety

This page explains what to be careful about when using Plexi.

Your API Key

Plexi uses your API key to call the AI provider you choose.

If Remember on this device is enabled, the key is saved in your browser's local storage. It is not meant to be stored in the Plexi backend.

Use this safely:

• Use Remember on this device only on your own phone or laptop.
• Do not use it on shared lab computers.
• Never paste your API key into GitHub Issues.
• Never share screenshots that show your key.

If your key is leaked, delete it from the provider dashboard and create a new one.

What Goes to the AI Provider

When you ask a question in Chat, Plexi sends:

• Your question
• Recent chat messages
• Relevant excerpts from selected study materials
• The selected model name

The provider receives this so it can answer. Provider privacy policies are controlled by the provider, not Plexi.

Uploaded Materials

Materials uploaded through plexi-materials may become publicly available through GitHub Releases and the Plexi app.

Before uploading, remove:

• Student names or roll numbers
• Personal phone numbers or emails
• Private class group links
• Paid copyrighted content
• Anything your teacher or college has not allowed you to share

Safe GitHub Issues

When asking for help, include:

• What page you were using
• What you clicked
• What error you saw
• A screenshot with private information hidden

Do not include:

• API keys
• Passwords
• Personal data
• Private file links that should not be public

AI Accuracy

The AI can still make mistakes.

Use Plexi for:

• Quick understanding
• Revision
• Summaries
• Practice questions
• Finding relevant files

Do not blindly trust it for:

• Final exam answers
• Legal or medical advice
• Official college policy
• Anything where a wrong answer has serious consequences

Always verify important study points with the original material.
