Commented-out code is superfluous — per the simplicity rule "Has no superfluous parts", dead code should be deleted rather than commented out. Git history preserves the original if it ever needs to be reverted. The stale explanatory comment above (lines 429-431) describing the now-inactive fallback should be removed too.
