Upgrade to 7.3.7 with winget removes profile from terminal?

Prerequisites

Steps to reproduce

Run terminal.exe with powershell 7 as default profile.
Run winget upgrade --all. Powershell get update from to 7.3.7

Expected behavior

After upgrade to 7.3.7 powershel 7 profile in terminal should work as usual.

Actual behavior

Once update done terminal loses powershell 7 profile completaly and swap to powershell 5 profile.
Powershell 7 profile has to be recreated manually.

Hmm I just did the same steps and I am unable to reproduce this issue? Was your profile in a different location than C:\Users\<yourusername>\Documents\PowerShell\? Perhaps the update didnt grab the right location?

Hard to tell now. I would say everything was on "defaults" as I'm using terminal and upgrading ps7 with winget since couple of years and never have similar issue.

Since I manually recreate ps7 profile in terminal I'm no longer able to update ps7 with winget. It finds the update, shows its installed successfully but nothing happen in reality. I have to download installation file from github and update manualy.

@rabusiak just so I am clear are you talking about your $PROFILE or the Profile in Windows Terminal settings? Neither which should be affected by winget install cc @anamnavi for winget

ps7 profile in Terminal :)

Now, when I try to upgrade ps7 with winget, I'm getting "installation technology change" error, even if it was always msi downloaded from github:
microsoft/winget-cli#2155

@rabusiak This might be late but, try looking for powershell in C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\ for Microsoft.PowerShell_. You will need to go to the terminal profile settings and click command then browse to be able to look inside the WindowsApps folder. I think that is the version that gets updated by winget and or Microsoft Updates. Meanwhile when you install from the github installer it goes to C:\Program Files\PowerShell. Unfortunately if I'm right then your problem will remain unsolved since the auto updatable powershell install has its version number in the file path. Meaning it will probably break your terminal profile every time it updates.
