The purpose of this project is to produce replacement firmware for the Battery Management System (BMS) in Dyson V10 series vacuum cleaner battery packs (shown below).

The original stock firmware permanently disables the pack if certain cell faults occur (such as cell imbalance >300mV). Even replacing the cells will not restore functionality, confining the battery permanently to eWaste. This is not cool.
In addition, the stock firmware requires serial communication with a Dyson vacuum cleaner—if no cleaner is connected, the pack will not output power. This replacement firmware removes that restriction, allowing you to use the pack as a standalone power source for other projects.
- Unlock previously disabled packs
- Rebalance cells safely
- Replace worn-out battery cells
- Repurpose the pack for custom electronics or devices
Note
**You don't even have to open the battery case to flash this firmware! Check out the Flashing Guide for details.
You can reprogram the battery using just a Raspberry Pi with an automated process—see HERE.
