OpenBot 0.41.1 — Tidier screens, easier install
OpenBot 0.41.1 — tidier screens, easier install. A small update after Autopilot.
Install or update (macOS 13+, Apple silicon or Intel)
curl -fsSL https://openbots.foundation/install.sh | shAlready on 0.41? Tap Update in OpenBot's sidebar, or run the same line. Your teammates, chats and files stay.
What changed
- The morning brief card is fixed. Its fields lined up badly, a label wrapped and the notice broke across lines. It is now a clean two-column form in light and dark, and on a phone.
- Tidier new screens. "What they know", the preview you get when someone shares a teammate with you, and "Add from a link" got the same cleanup.
- An easier install. The installer shows a progress bar and how long to expect, and downloads through openbots.foundation (about five times faster in our testing), falling back to GitHub if needed. The fingerprint check is unchanged.
Still true from 0.41
- Autopilot (off by default, per teammate) lets a teammate act like a person without asking first. It still stops for sign-ins, CAPTCHAs, more AI spending and saving new instructions.
- Mail and Messages need Full Disk Access for OpenBot. The app explains this and opens the right page.
- This is still a beta. The Mac app is ad-hoc signed, not notarized; the one-line installer is the supported way to install it.
Full details are in the changelog.
OpenBot 0.41 — Autopilot
OpenBot 0.41 — Autopilot. For the teammates you trust completely: let them act like a person, without asking first.
Install or update (macOS 13+, Apple silicon or Intel)
curl -fsSL https://openbots.foundation/install.sh | shAlready on 0.40? Tap Update in OpenBot's sidebar, or run the same line. Your teammates, chats and files stay.
New
- Autopilot. Open a teammate → Autopilot → switch it on. From then on that teammate sends, books, posts and buys without waiting for your okay. It is off until you turn it on, one teammate at a time (or for everyone in Control center → Advanced).
- You get a clear warning first, a note appears in the teammate's chat, a chip shows who is on Autopilot, and every action is logged in the activity feed.
- It still stops for sign-ins, CAPTCHAs, more AI spending and saving new instructions.
- It never travels: a shared teammate, an imported profile or a copy always starts with it off.
- Switch back to Ask first any time from the same place, or from the + menu next to the message box.
- Easier to find. A new comparison page and plain-text facts for AI assistants.
Good to know
- Autopilot is for teammates you trust. Like any assistant, a teammate can be misled by a hostile web page or email. Keep Autopilot off for teammates that can reach accounts or money you wouldn't hand to a stranger.
- Mail and Messages need Full Disk Access for OpenBot (System Settings → Privacy & Security → Full Disk Access). The app explains this and opens the right page.
- This is still a beta. The Mac app is ad-hoc signed, not notarized; the one-line installer is the supported way to install it.
Full details are in the changelog.
OpenBot 0.40 — Share your teammates
OpenBot 0.40 — Share your teammates. Send a teammate you made to anyone as a link, start from a gallery of ready-made ones, and turn a finished answer into a shareable page.
Install or update (macOS 13+, Apple silicon or Intel)
curl -fsSL https://openbots.foundation/install.sh | shAlready on 0.39? Tap Update in OpenBot's sidebar, or run the same line. Your teammates, chats and files stay.
New
- Share a teammate. Open a teammate and tap Copy share link. The link holds the name, face, job, instructions, skills and routines — nothing is uploaded. Whoever opens it sees exactly what the teammate is told to do and can add it to their own OpenBot.
- Add from a link. Workspace → Add from a link. You get a preview first. A new teammate starts with the browser and private computer off, uses your usual AI, and its routines arrive paused. Your accounts, history and memory are never shared.
- A gallery. Eight ready-made teammates at openbots.foundation/teammates: Receipt keeper, Inbox triage, Trip planner, Meeting prepper, Study buddy, Weekly planner, Price watcher and Proofreader. Want to add one? See CONTRIBUTING.md.
- Share a result. The share button under an answer makes one web page that loads nothing from the internet. Emails, phone numbers, IBANs, long numbers, keys in links and your home folder are hidden first, and you see what was hidden before you copy or save it.
Good to know
- Mail and Messages need Full Disk Access for OpenBot (System Settings → Privacy & Security → Full Disk Access). The app explains this and opens the right page.
- A shared teammate can only be as good as its instructions. Read the preview before you add one; you can change anything afterwards.
- This is still a beta. The Mac app is ad-hoc signed, not notarized; the one-line installer is the supported way to install it.
Full details are in the changelog.
OpenBot 0.39 — Knows you, privately
OpenBot 0.39 — Knows you, privately. Your team can now find things in your own notes, mail, messages and files, and start your day with a brief.
Install or update (macOS 13+, Apple silicon or Intel)
curl -fsSL https://openbots.foundation/install.sh | shAlready on 0.38? Tap Update in OpenBot's sidebar, or run the same line. Your teammates, chats and files stay.
New
- Ask about your own life. Try:
- "What did Anna say about the Berlin trip?"
- "Find my note about the Antwerp visit."
- "Where's the contract I saved last spring?"
- Workspace → What they know is where you choose what a teammate may search: Notes, Mail, Messages and folders you pick.
- The index lives in OpenBot's folder on your Mac and only you can read it. Only the few snippets a teammate finds for a question go to your AI.
- Forget everything erases it from disk. Your files, notes and mail are never touched.
- A morning brief. Automations → Start your day with a brief. Each morning your teammate writes what's on your calendar, the unread mail that needs you, and what's due. It only reads, and Try it now shows you one immediately.
- Calendar, unread mail and reminders as tools any teammate can use.
Good to know
- Mail and Messages need Full Disk Access for OpenBot (System Settings → Privacy & Security → Full Disk Access). The app explains this and opens the right page.
- The first calendar read can take about a minute on a Mac with many calendars; after that it is cached and instant.
- This is still a beta. The Mac app is ad-hoc signed, not notarized; the one-line installer is the supported way to install it.
Full details are in the changelog.
OpenBot 0.38 — Your Mac, your apps
OpenBot 0.38 — Your Mac, your apps. Your team of AI teammates now works in your own apps on your Mac, not just in a chat.
Install or update (macOS 13+, Apple silicon or Intel)
curl -fsSL https://openbots.foundation/install.sh | shAlready on 0.37? Tap Update in OpenBot's sidebar, or run the same line. Your teammates, chats and files stay.
New
- Your Mail, Calendar, Reminders, Notes, Contacts and Shortcuts. Try:
- "Find my latest receipt email and save the PDF to Documents/Receipts."
- "What's on my plate today?"
- "Remind me to pay it Friday."
- Reading happens right away.
- Adding a reminder, note or event, saving an attachment or running a shortcut shows you exactly what will change and waits for your okay.
- Emails are only ever drafted for you to send.
- "Hey Siri, ask Nova to…" Siri reaches the teammate you name.
- Send to OpenBot. Share any page, link or text from your iPhone or Mac, and say what to do with it.
- Ask from anywhere on your Mac. Use Spotlight, Siri, the menu bar or a keyboard shortcut (Control center → Ask from anywhere on this Mac).
- Two free ways to start. Use a Google Gemini key, or a Nous Portal account with free models. No card needed.
- Dates you can trust. Teammates know today's date and your time zone, and report the exact time an app saved.
Good to know
- Mail needs Full Disk Access for OpenBot (System Settings → Privacy & Security → Full Disk Access), the same switch iMessage uses. The other apps ask once through macOS.
- This is still a beta. The Mac app is ad-hoc signed, not notarized; the one-line installer is the supported way to install it.
Full details are in the changelog.
OpenBot 0.37.0 beta 1 — first public beta
OpenBot's first public beta. OpenBot gives you a small team of AI teammates on your Mac. They research, write and get things done, and ask before anything important. It's free, open source, and works with the AI you already use.
Install (macOS 13+, Apple silicon or Intel)
curl -fsSL https://openbots.foundation/install.sh | shNo administrator password is needed. The installer checks the download's SHA-256 and runs OpenBot in the background as OpenBot.app. It opens your studio in the browser. To uninstall, run ~/Library/Application Support/OpenBot/uninstall.sh.
Highlights
- Make your own teammates. Pick a name, a face, a color and a job. Each teammate gets its own workspace and its own browser.
- Research in seconds. Built-in web search and reading, with links to sources.
- Group chats that work in order. Write "Nova, find three restaurants. Scout, check their hours." Scout waits for Nova's list.
- Real files. Word documents and spreadsheets you can open and share.
- Asks before it acts. Sending, buying, signing in or submitting always shows the website and the exact button first.
- Reach your team anywhere:
- Telegram, Discord and iMessage
- "Hey Siri, Ask OpenBot"
- Pair your iPhone with one scan
- Hands-free voice
- Routines. "Every Monday at 9, plan my week." Your Mac can wake up for them.
- Your AI, your choice:
- A free Google Gemini key
- The ChatGPT, Claude, Grok or Copilot (Pro/Business) subscription you already have
- OpenCode Go
- Any OpenAI-compatible API
- Local models with Ollama
- Bring your setup. One-click import from Hermes Agent and OpenClaw.
- Updates in one tap from the sidebar.
Good to know
- This is a beta. The Mac app is ad-hoc signed, not notarized; the one-line installer is the supported way to install it.
- Free AI keys have tight limits. With Google's free tier, Flash-Lite is used by default, and OpenBot tells you when the free allowance is used up.
- Known gaps: product gap audit. Found a bug? Use Send feedback in the app or open an issue.
