AI-2 ISO 20260923

AI-2 0.19.2. The installer speaks Polish, translated by Mateusz Szczepaniak, and the Search Knowledge and Knowledge Packs menu entries have Polish names. Installer slides no longer cut off long lines (three Polish lines, and the Spanish community catalog line since 20260921).

AI-2 can now be translated by anyone, with no programs to install and nothing to compile: TRANSLATING.md walks the whole way, and the checks on a pull request say what is still missing.

AI-2 ISO 20260921b

AI-2 0.19.1. The setup no longer offers to try the Knowledge Packs in the middle of the steps: its Knowledge Packs screen explains what they are, names the three on board and where to ask them (Applications > AI-2 > Search Knowledge), and goes on with Enter. The README is rewritten for someone arriving on the page.

AI-2 0.19.0. The three Knowledge Packs now come with AI-2 as packages, installed once for the machine instead of copied into every account, so pacman -Syu refreshes them and pacman -R removes one.

Also in this release: the setup's first question opens Search Knowledge in its own window; ai-2 remote set no longer sends an API key over plain HTTP; model downloads keep to HTTPS through redirects; ai-2 model and ai-2 doctor see the speech models and the Knowledge Packs; an upgrade refreshes the login message and the login screen without touching local edits; a fresh install cannot idle-suspend during the setup; and the ISO checksum is signed.

AI-2 ISO 20260918

AI-2 ISO of 18 September 2026, with ai-2 0.18.6 and the three knowledge packs at revision 2.

Search Knowledge grew up. On a fresh install, with no network, Applications > AI-2 > Search Knowledge names the packs it searches, shows one result per document, and typing a result's number opens that document in w3m, at the passage, with its paragraphs. The text follows the window when you resize it, / searches inside the document, and q returns you to your questions. Nothing on screen is written by the AI; it is the documents' own text, with the source named.

Also new since 20260917:

• The packs carry their paragraphs again (they used to read back as one block). Every vector is unchanged, so retrieval is exactly what was measured.
• On a machine with no packs, the Search Knowledge window offers to install them, says what it costs before asking, and goes straight on to your question.
• One update bubble at a time, and an update check that failed is retried in five minutes rather than six hours.
• ai-2 doc index --embedder, for building an English pack that does not cost everyone a 345 MB download.
• A quieter wallpaper.

This is the first image whose ai-2 went through a hardware gate: the exact package was tried on a 2011 laptop before it was signed.

AI-2 ISO 20260917

AI-2 ISO of 17 September 2026, with ai-2 0.18.0.

The knowledge this image carries is now reachable without knowing a command. Applications > AI-2 > Search Knowledge is the second entry of the AI-2 menu; it asks for a question and keeps asking, and what it shows is the text of the documents themselves, with the source of every passage named. On the machines AI-2 is built for this answers in seconds, where a chat answer takes minutes.

Also new since 20260916:

• w3m on the image and ai-2 gopher, so one computer can serve its knowledge packs to every other machine on the network, read with any Gopher client and no AI-2 on the asking side.
• The three packs in /etc/skel now record where they came from, so ai-2 knowledge list says "from the AI-2 installation image".
• Knowledge packs carry a revision, so a pack file can no longer put an installed pack back to an older version.

As in 20260916, the image carries the three knowledge packs (ai2-help, linux-essentials, everyday) and the 85 MB English embedding model, so a fresh install answers questions about its own documentation, about everyday Linux trouble and about 196 countries with no network at all.

Verified by a complete QEMU install (erase disk, BIOS) and first login, then on the installed system: the packs listed with their origin, a search answered from the everyday pack with its licence and attribution and no network, the AI-2 menu, and the Gopher server read by w3m.
