Events
Events allow you to display key dates and timeframes (such as project deadlines, plant shutdowns, or company vacations) that are important for all report viewers to know. Unlike standard milestones, these events are not tied to individual tasks and are drawn across the entire visual timeline.
Click the ellipsis (...) in the top-right corner of the Gantt visual container in Power BI and select Edit to open the visual's custom options menu.
Select the Events options card in the edit workspace.
To add a single-date indicator line (such as a project milestone or meeting date):
- Under the Events section, click the + (plus) sign.
- Enter a description for your event in the text box.
- Select the event date from the calendar dropdown.

To define a period of time (such as holiday seasons or maintenance windows):
- Under the Event Ranges section, click the + (plus) sign.
- Enter an event range description.
- Select the Start date and End date for the period.
- Save your changes.

You can style and position both single-date events and event ranges in the Format pane under the Event Marker and Event Range cards. You can customize line colors, border styles, label font settings, and transparency.

You can choose whether event markers and ranges display in front of or behind your taskbars:
- Display behind taskbars (Default): Events are drawn in the background, ensuring they do not block tasks on the timeline.

- Display in front of taskbars: Events are drawn in the foreground over taskbars, making them highly visible.
