Highlights

🐳 Docker Compose deployment — one command brings up the full Knot stack with your choice of PostgreSQL or MySQL. The frontend is embedded into the backend binary at image build time, so a single container serves everything.

# PostgreSQL stack on http://localhost:3000
docker compose -f docker-compose.pg.yml up -d

# MySQL stack on http://localhost:3001
docker compose -f docker-compose.mysql.yml up -d

Both stacks share a single multi-stage image (knot-app:latest) defined in docker-compose.base.yml; database selection happens entirely at runtime through environment variables. Credentials default to knot/knot and can be overridden via a .env file. See the Docker Deployment section of the README for details.

What's Changed

Added

  • Multi-stage Dockerfile — bun builds the frontend, Go compiles the backend with the embedfrontend tag, and the final image is a minimal non-root Alpine runtime.

  • Compose stacks for PostgreSQL and MySQL with health checks, dependency ordering (depends_on: service_healthy), and persistent volumes (pgdata, mysqldata, knot-data).

  • Environment variable configuration — all database settings can now be overridden at runtime, which makes container and PaaS deployments configuration-file-free:

Fixed

  • Cross-dialect table detection — database initialization probed for existing tables with a SQLite-only sqlite_master query, forcing a full AutoMigrate on every startup under PostgreSQL/MySQL. It now uses GORM's dialect-agnostic Migrator.HasTable.
  • PostgreSQL compatibility of ordering queries — 14 raw SQL fragments using backtick-quoted `order` (a reserved word) failed with syntax errors on PostgreSQL. All of them now use GORM clause builders, which quote identifiers per dialect. Verified end-to-end against real PostgreSQL 16 and MySQL 8 containers.

  • Design spec and implementation plan included under docs/superpowers/.

Upgrade Notes

Existing binary and CLI installations are unaffected — when no KNOT_* environment variables are set, behavior is identical to previous releases.

Assets

Pre-built CLI binaries below embed the frontend and manage the server lifecycle (knot setup / knot start / knot stop). For Docker deployments, build from source with the Compose files instead.
